Current recommendations are to ask your obstetrician to monitor your own glucose levels and check Hgb A1C (if this just sounded like a foreign language, print off this page and take it with you to your next appointment). You will need to obtain a glucometer (glucose monitoring kit) and check your blood sugars when you first wake up in the morning (fasting blood sugar) and 2 hours after a meal (post-prandial blood sugar). This will give gastric bypass patients more accurate documentation when screening for gestational diabetes. Good luck. I asked the OB/GYN's I work with and this is what I was told
