Default breast feeding?

Has anyone breast feed after WLS? Do we have enough vitamins for ourselves and our baby? There is a place I can go get my milk tested after she is born but I am just curious if others have tried.

I BF just fine after WLS. The baby was a lil lazy on the eating side and didnt gain weight not bc of lack of nutrition but because of his disinterest in eating. I still BF and supplement @ 7 months.

GL!

I on the other hand have had a terrible time trying to BF. Not sure it has anything to do woth GBS, but it sure plays a role on your emotions. I feel/felt like a HUGE failure because I can't provide for my baby. I am pumping but I don't get much at one time, but something is better than nothing. Not that she is on formula she is happy and not starving. All you can do is try. Good luck!

Not necessary. Women in sub-saharan africa have almost identical breast milk to those of us with abundant resources. Our bodies take what the baby needs and leave us in the lerch. That is why your calcium levels go down after breastfeeding - your body puts the baby first, so no worries.

ALso, after your baby weans, your body rebuilds the bones and they are stronger than before. Used to be they thought breastfeeding increased osteoperosis, then the found out it did the opposite. Cool, eh?

I am breast feeding but need to supplement with formula because I can't keep up with my little guy. Just stay on your prenatal vits (2X's day is what my pediatrician said) and you should be fine.

I was wondering about baby after being born if they are still a good little parasite and take what they need leaving us holding an empty bag. That is fine with me I was on a liquid diet for 3 weeks while pregnant due to GB complications I lost 8 or 9 pounds and they kept sonograms of her and she even grew while I was wasting away! I don't mind I want her to get what she needs. All the la lache league could tell me is that I could have my milk tested and I could give baby liquid vitamins. If that were the case I would feel better formula feeding. I had someone else tell me the same thing about baby will get what she needs and I think I will go to my GB doc a week or so after she is born and have the vitamin blood work done it will be time for a visit anyhow. I love to hear others have done it and also others have tried.

I have I went to today. They told me not to give up and keep doing what I am doing. They also told me of a medicine I could take but I can't remember the name. The doc has to prescribe it to me. Tonight Tim and I are going to go over all the pros and cons and decide what we should do. Right now she's happy and full and that's what really matters. I was starving the poor baby and didn't even know it.

The med is Reglan. I still take it and didnt have any of the side effects mentioned. Its totally ok to supplement! Ive had Brandon on both formula and BM since he was 2 weeks old. If you can't keep up, its ok. A lot of women cant.

Just remember, you are all fantastic!

I just wanted to pop in and say thanks for asking this question and thank you all for responding to it. I was wondering if there was any relationship to milk production or problems with nutrients but you helped answer all that. Thanks so much. It's so great to have this place as a resource.
