Pregnant when had surgery
Hi, this is my first post here. I am exactly four weeks out from my surgery and just found out tonight that Im pregnant. That means I must have been when I had my surgery and it just wasn't showing positive on the test yet. I'm really worried. I see posts on here from people who know somebody who was early out and pregnant, but this early? Anybody else have this experience? I will call my surgeon Monday but now I have the whole weekend to be worried.

At four weeks out, I would call the doctor now.. asap.. there are issues here with regards to the amount of food and liquids you can get in and personally, I think it is a mistake to wait until Monday.
I think it's safe to say that this would mean your pregnancy falls under the 'high risk' label and therefore needs to have someone qualified to monitor your situation.
Good luck, hon.. I would be worried, too.

When was your last period? That will tell you how far along you are. Have you had relations since the surgery??
Don't panic. You do need to speak with your surgeon and anesthesiologist to make sure they didn't give you any medications that cause harm to the fetus if indeed you were pregnant on the day of surgery.
Remember, from the first day of your missed period, you are really only approx. 2 weeks along.

My last period was actually in mid april. I think I must have got pregnant the week before my surgery. I figure around May 10th which would put me around 5 weeks. No chance at all that it happened after surgery. I don't know if I could get in touch with my doc on a Saturday and I guess I dont see that anything would change between now and Monday to make it worth disturbing him on a weekend. Otherwise yes I would prefer to speak to him now! now would be good!

Wow. I'm not a doctor, but I don't see how you can get the proper nutrients that a baby needs without an IV or something. Good luck, and keep us posted.

If it were me I would go in and get hooked up to Iv's or something. The spinal cord and brain are developed in the first 6 weeks or somethinig like that. Very early on. A Doctor once told me that iin Africa where the woman are very undernurashed but the babies usually come out fine but that is because they rob the mother of all there nurashment. So be careful and get all those vitamans in.
God bless both of you

I don't know where you are, but if you are anywhere near Boston I would call Mass General and get an appointment with Laura Riley, MD. She is an expert (author, etc.) on high risk pregnancies. I met with her as part of my infertility work-up there. She is very straightforward and no nonsense.
Whatever you do, I would not see a run of the mill OBGYN. You need someone who can handle high risk. And not "over 35, a little overweight, smokes" high risk. REAL high risk. Good luck.

Heather,
Good advice in posts above. More than anything, I would be worried about the health of the fetus bearing in mind the heavy anaesthetics you have been given for your major surgery. Did your RNY test include pregnancy testing by any chance?
Best wishes in your pregnancy research - the earlier you can be reassured, the better and more emotionally comfortable/stronger you'll be.
Keep us posted - interesting "case"
Cheers,
Vim
