Default Why do they tell us to wait?

So I'm sure that I should know this already, but why do the doctors tell us to wait 12-24 months before getting pregnant? My doctor says to wait 18 months, but why? Is it so that we obtain our weight goal or so we can stabliize?

I'm almost 11 months post-op and my DH are anxious to start a family, but I'm leary of trying since I'm not sure why they tell us to wait a certain amount of time.

I have lost all the weight that I'd wanted to and am working on maintaining at ~160. Currently I'm +/- 2 pounds from 160 depending on the day and I feel great. I just don't want to rush into anything if there are significant risks.

Does anyone have any thoughts or info to share?

it is best to maintain for a while. The big part of keeping weight off after WLS is to change the habits. I can tell you now that I am prego I dont feel like I had WLS. I can eat larger amounts and I am hungry all the time! If I didnt have the 2 years of working at my weight after WLS I would have issues with resorting back to my old ways. I have seen peeps get prego to early after and they dont have the best results with weight loss and keeping it off.

I say wait another 6 months and focus on you! You have the rest of your life to focus on kids. Do it for yourself.
