Default how long to wait....

My surgeon said to wait 18 months before trying to get pregnant. I will be 18 months out in June. Right now, I am nowhere near goal but my weight loss has slowed a lot. All my blood test results are fine except my iron is a little low, but I'm nowhere near anemic. I just turned 38 in February and I just don't want to wait any longer! If I feel fine and am healthy, is waiting another two months really going to make that much of a difference? I just don't see that it will, but maybe I'm missing something. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!

Default I started trying at about a year out

I started trying to get pregnant at a year out from surgery. My surgeon and gyno and PCP were all fine with that. That being said, it hasn't been instant for me, so I think it's gonna be 18months at this point before I get there, lol.

I am 36, so totally understand not wanting to wait. Before I started, I did everything I could to make sure my body was ready. I had my regular gyno appointment, had all my labs done, and even had a mammogram, even though it's pretty early for me.

You should definitely ping your surgeon and gyno and discuss it with them. If nothing else, it will make you feel confident that your are doing it the right way, in a healthy way. What's most important is, of course, doing what's right to sustain a healthy baby and pregnancy.

Good luck!

Mine said 18 months to 2 years, depending on how you feel. I was somewhere between the two when I got pregnant. If your iron is coming back low, start stocking up on it NOW. I can't stress that enough. They want a pregnant person's iron to be 15.5 ish and mine at delivery was 8.3. It's down to 7.8 now and it's not a good thing.

Default Surprise

Hi,

My surgeon told me 2 years. BUT, I wasn't supposed to be able to get pregnant anyway. We had given up. I was told, NO BABIES FOR YOU! So, needless to say, 20 months later, when I was told I was 4 1/2 months pregnant...we were SURPRISED! AND HAPPY!!!! I had so much scar tissue built up from the MANY surgeries, that I had no idea I was pregnant. My cycle had always been messed up also, so I had no clue there.

Emily Jayne was born a month early, almost exactly 2 years after my bypass. She weighed 5 pounds 1 ounce and is the joy of our lives. It was a very easy pregnancy, except for the last little bit when I developed pre-eclampsia (the reason for the emergency c-section). We now have a very healthy 13 1/2 month old little girl!

Oh, your little girl is beautiful!

If I talk to my surgeon about this, I know the exact answer I'm going to get. He is 100% by the book. He is EXTREMELY conservative! I decided to stop taking my BCP. I want that stuff out of my system before I get pregnant. In the mean time, we aren't avoiding but we also aren't really actively trying. (yeah, right! tell my DH that!). The way I look at it, I feel great. Tomorrow is April and I was supposed to wait until June to try, it's only two months early, and lots of people accidently get pregnant early. If it happens, it happens. If not, and if I'm not pregnant by shortly after June, then I'll be going to the gyno for assistance. As long as we've been trying without success and as irregular as my periods have always been, I'd be surprised if it happens without assistance anyway. Thanks for the input!

What a lovely blessing bestowed upon you Lea Ann! She is beautiful, and I'm sure you treat her like the miracle she is.

Tonya, what can I say? If I were in your position, I would be trying away! 16, 18 months--not much difference. If you got pregnant today, you would only be 2 months along at 18 months out. BFD! You know your body, you know your circumstances, and if you want a baby, do it!

Default Eating right

Eating right while pregnant is the key. Like I said before, I had to visit a nutritionist. I had to keep my protein up and make sure I added about 200 MORE calories a day...I did this through peanut butter....a tablespoon here and a tablespoon there. It did the trick!

I look at it like this....THE LORD'S WILL!

Good luck and I hope you are soon blessed with a little one!
