Default Trying to get pregnant post WLS

Hi there everyone!

I had my surgery a year ago, and have pretty much reached my goal. I feel great, have no health issues, and am trying to get pregnant. I have not had any children, and was on birth control for 10 years (the entire time I've been married). I guess my husband and I are just latecomers to the process, but honestly, we haven't felt ready for it until now (and boy, when you're ready, you're ready!). Good news is, we're both in good health, and I've made significant lifestyle changes in the past few years that will ensure a healthy environment for a baby.

Anyway, we've just started trying, so I'm not too worried yet about it, but I wondered about a few things.

One, I got a prenatal vitamin from my OB/GYN, but it is like a horse pill. I am concerned about digesting it. I saw the related thread on vitamins, so will be asking my doctor for a liquid or chewable version of prenatals. I have fabulous insurance, so I'm pretty sure I'll get that covered, even if it's not a regular prescription. Any other thoughts on things I should be concerned about in that arena?

Two, I have lost 120lbs., and have lots of loose skin, like so many people do. I am not going to have plastics done since we're trying to get pregnant, but I wondered if anyone found that their skin regained any elasticity after pregnancy? Might be just wishful thinking on my part, but I was hoping that after birth, my skin might respond by going back even farther than it is now. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or not.

I'm really excited! This is another step on my journey of leading a more fulfilling and rewarding life. I look forward to hearing some of your experiences of having a baby after WLS (especially if it's your first baby!).

Hi,

Yes, I would ask your OB for a chewable or liquid. I was on both during my pregnancy.

I too, lost about 120lbs after gbs I am sorry to report for me that my skin did not change during or after pregnancy. It went right back to where it was before pregnancy. It is still there. Fortunate for me, my skin problem is not "that" bad. Now my boobies.......Yikes! They shrunk even more. I had lost most of my boobs with weight lost, ok most of them. Then at about 7 mos. pregnant I started to get some boob back then after the baby was born I had some nice knockers...WEEEEEEE I loved them but after about 2 months they were history and now I have nothing. I mean nothing. But, I have a beautiful little baby boy, that was healthy and growing strong so that is all that matters. I will get my nice boobies someday!

I wish you luck and if you have any questions feel free to message me. I know there are a couple of preggos floating around this forum and I am sure they will chime in as well!

Default Got a chewable from my doc

I actually got a chewable from my doc. It seems to be working just fine. Still not pregnant yet, but we're happy to keep trying

I'm pretty lucky, as my cycle is now super regular, after being off the pill. It comes on the expected day at the same time, if you can believe it! I know when I'm ovulating, so I figure we're good to go...it just takes a little bit of patience.

My 10 year wedding anniversary is Friday, and it's actually ovulation time for me too. I kinda think it would be cool to get pregnant on my 10 year anniversary, if only for sentimental reasons So, here's hoping!

Ditto that. I took 2 in the early AM and 2 around 5pm. The only vitamin issue that I had problems with was iron. But the iron deficiency has been a consistent demon since day one.
