Jenny...is there no medical care for you there that is covered. I know in Western Canada, everyone can go to a doctor? Does Andrew have coverage at his work? Hey, I'm not ragging on you, just want the best for you and the baby.

I'm not eligible for the Ontario Health Insurance Program until after I've applied for permanent residency and passed the medical. We need $1000 minimum to apply for PR. The midwife clinic here wants $3000 upfront for a patient that doesn't have OHIP. Andrew does have insurance through his work, but in order for it to be worth anything, I need OHIP. OHIP is billed first, and the work insurance covers what's left. It's not like secondary insurance in the US.
Anyways, I went to the walk in clinic, and was given the okay that things are good. They said it's most likely due to dehydration and because I have central diabetes insipidus, I'm dehydrated alot. So, I need to drink more, eat more often, and rest.

Oh Jen. Glad to hear you went to the clinic and things are fine....we worry about you sweetie. Continue to take care and thanks for explaining about the health care...how long does it take for permanent residency? Hopefully you can do this before the baby is due!
Take Care

PR can take anywhere from 4 months to over a year. But once the application and fee is sent in, they send us information on getting the medical exam. Providing I don't have a communicable or otherwise financially taxing illness, I qualify for OHIP immediately after the exam. At least, according to the OHIP website. It does say there may be a 3 month waiting period, but the wait starts from when you arrived in the country, not when you applied. Lucky me, I arrived in August. Immigration has my arrival date as Sept 15th, but even that was a month ago. We'll find a way to make it work.

Hey Jenny!
It was great to hear your voice on Tuesday! So glad you got yourself checked out, Sweetie. Were they able to set you up with a doctor for the duration?
I hope you're feeling better and the cold holds off for a little longer...
Take good care of you!

Sorry Donna, but no. Having babies here is way different than it is there. I don't have the luxury of choosing my doctor unless I want to shell out for an obstetrician and take the chance that there won't be one due to the lack of specialists. You get a midwife based on where you live and the clinic's boundaries. I'm thinking of maybe using Andrew's parents' address to see if I can be seen at that clinic. But if the situation is the same as the one here....with them wanting thousands up front, then we're back where we started.

How very scary, Jenny!
I'm sorry that you are out there blowing in the breeze. I wish you a complication free pregnancy and an easy birthing. hmmmmn, maybe you could happen to be visiting your mom around your due date....

Ya know, I had thought of that as well Donna, but if the baby is born in the US then we have to jump through hoops to get it Canadian citizenship. If it's born in Canada, it's automatically a Canadian, and all we have to do is go to the consulate's office in Toronto and report a birth abroad and then it will have dual US and Canadian citizenship. So many hoops, my belly is getting too big too be jumpting through them.
