Red face 16 Weeks Pregnant with Questions - Help!

Hi everyone, I haven't posted to this site in a long time, but I know how helpful this site was to me following surgery and I am hoping it will help me now. I am 16 weeks pregnant, 2 years post-op, and unfortunately my Army husband was just deployed 2 months ago for 15 months. I have my wonderful 9 year old step daughter living with me, and I am very scared about my first pregnancy alone. We just moved to Germany and unfortunately there are not alot of resources in the area that understand GB patients. If you don't mind Ill just get to it and list some questions.

1. Are there any unique issues to breastfeeding?
2. I still have loose stool, is that normal?
3. I dont seem to show at all below my bellybutton but am getting wider around it, it that strange?
4. I take the pre-natal vits but nothing else, do you reccomend anything else?
5. I had the laproscopic surgery, does the scar tissue affect your growing tummy before or after birth?

I really have so many more questions but didn't want to bombard you all at once. Thank you for any information or support you can provide, Cheers!

I'm about 2 weeks behind you, so unfortunately, I don't have most of the answers you've had questions to. I've noticed #3. I don't show when standing, but when I lie down, I have one heck of a bump - pictures of it are in member photos.

There are a few others that are pregnant as well, and some that have recently given birth. I'm sure someone will have an answer for you. Congratulations, and good luck!

First off CONGRATS! I am a little over 2 years post GB and just had a baby boy 3 months ago so thought I would chime in here.

1. I didn't try to breastfeed, so I really can't answer that question.
2. I have always had loose stool (most of the time)
3. That is not strange at all, I just had a little bump (as Jenny refers to it) until I was about 5 months pregnant then after that I started to get round and look pregnant but I never got very big.
4. I took prenatels and stayed taking my B-12 injections (one thing, remember when you are around 20 weeks or so they may want you to do the gluclose test which includes drinking a sugary substance, let them know your a GB patient and can't drink it...You can do the test by fasting which includes going into having your blood drawn with no food in or your system and then waiting about 1-2 hours and eating and drawing blood again..
5. I also had LAP and it didn't affect anything and I was in a panic because I ended up having to have a C-section but no problems at all.

If I can be any help to you at all please do not hesistate to contact me, if you just need to talk I am here. I know how scared I was when I first became pregnant! Ask away, I'm here!

Thank you for the good info about the Glucose Test I will definately bring that up to the Doctor. I have been checking out your old posts throught your pregnancy and I wanted to let you know how helpful they have been!!! I also had an appointment with a nutritionist just to make sure Im on the right track, and so far I am. Unfortunately I have been having these uncontrollable cravings for Steak and Cheetos. Weird, I dont really even like steak. Cheers!

Oh one last question, do you reccomend any websites that helped you during pregnancy?

Hi Ladyjane,

I am glad that you could find some of my old post and they have given you some information. Honestly when I got pregnant I couldn't find much info on pregnancy after GB so I relied on a great gal here named Denise who had a baby. She was a great deal of help to me as I always seemed to be panicking that I wasn't doing things right. The funny thing is I had all kinds of cravings during my pregnancy like you said things I wouldn't normally eat I ate while pregnant my big thing was egg sandwiches - uck I hate eggs! but loved them while pregnant..Strange things happen while being pregnant and I also found out while I was pregnant that I could consume more food which scared me to death but I gained the right amount of weight and it just melted away after the birth of my son.

If I can be any help to you please let me know as I know I sure needed to ask lots of questions and just needed someone else to tell me things would be ok and I thank god for my great friend Denise here on the board.

1. I breastfed bria for 13 months. Just make sure your getting your protein and ALL of your water.

2. I still have loose stool. You will be greatful for this if they decide to put you on iron supp.

3. Everyone's body is different

4. Take only what the OB or nutritionest tells you to. Some supplements are not good for the baby during pregnancy. They took me off the biotin and zinc while pregnant. I took just my multi and my calcium you NEED your calcium of your bones will suffer!

5. I had lap also and no problems with the growing tummy. Just be sure to get in 80-120 g of protein daily and water water water

I have 5 kids one born after my gastric bypass. if you have any questions ask away. I was only 2 1/2 months out when i got pregnant and I was 12 weeks before I found out, can you say denial? lol

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I have had two post-op, the most recent was twins.

I will try my best to answer your questions based on my experience:

1) I breastfed my son for 6 months with no issues. I am now 5 months into breastfeeding my twin girls and doing just fine.

2) I agree with a previous post that you will appreciate this when you start taking iron supplements. Although I found an iron/vitamin c tablet that really helps with the constipation.

3) Everyone is different and each pregnancy is different. I don't think this is anything to be concerned about.

4) You may look into a DHA vitamin which is an Omega 3 EFA. Supposedly this helps with brain development.

5) I had an incision, so I can't answer directly, but I also had a subsequent hernia surgery. None of this caused problems during or after my pregnancies.

Gook luck! I'm sure you will do just fine.
