Default Vitamin question

Hello:
I just found out that I am approx 7 weeks prego and am curious which vitamins I should be taking.

I have not seen my obgyn yet & of course I will ask her, but until then, do I continue on the b1, b12, calcium, multi with iron and beta carotene or just move to a prenatal ?

I am also still loosing weight and by the looks of what I have read on the pregnancy section it looks common.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Best us luck to all of us new moms to be!

Tawnie,

I take all of my regular vitamins/supplements, which includes 2 multis (one am, one pm), but no prenatal. Some supplement with 2 prenatals (one am and one pm) instead of the multi. Congratulations!

I would think you have been to the doc by now but if not you need folic acid it is in most prenatal vit.

Congrat We are probably due around the same time...July 4th. I take Citrical 90 + DHA (prescription) and 3 Viactiv calcium chews . It has the extra iron we need, the max folic acid and a DHA pill which is important for your baby's development. My doctor said this is sufficient as I am 3 years post-op. Unfortunately this particular vitamin is not covered by insurance but I think it's worth it Good Luck!!!

Default Pregnancy Vitamins

Throughout my two post-op pregnancies I never took any officially "prenatal" vitamins. I just stuck with my usual regimen which already included the ever-vital folic acid supplement. I was already on the folic acid because I was told (somewhere/by somebody) that taking it can help with getting pregnant.

I had trouble with my second pregnancy (twins) keeping food, let alone vitamins down. I finally found a multivitamin that I would not throw up. I have all sorts of information about this on my website: http://www.MyGastricBypassLife.com/vitamins.

I would suggest getting on folic acid ASAP and also looking into a DHA supplement. This is an Omega 3 precursor which is said to be critical to brain development. There are also some prescription vitamins that you can ask your OB about.

My advice I give to all post-op pregnant mothers: talk with your OB early about alternatives to the "sugar test" for gestational diabetes.
