Becoming Pregnant?
Hi all,
Before my surgery, I had ask my surgeon of the time fram of becoming pregnant; however the doctor said I needed to wait a year. Has anyone else heard otherwise?

i heard 12-18 months.
although my dr never said anything about post op pregnancy . i havent even told him yet . im 10 months post op RNY and almost 12 weeks pregnant . ive heard of women getting pregnant even sooner from surgery and ended up having good healthy pregnancies . id wait as long as possible , at least once the weight loss has slowed way down or stopped . i am fluxuating between like 3-5 pounds (up and down ) . i hope this reply helped .

Most surgeons want you to wait between 1-2 years. Yes, women have gotten pregnant before this time frame, and have gone on to have healthy babies. It's just not an ideal situation. Between you, your partner, and your doctor, you will determine what is best for you and your body.

My doctor told me to wait 12-18 months. I got pregnant when I right around the year mark and I had a healthy baby boy! Like others mentioned it is best to wait as long as you can. There are many reasons to try and wait and I would discuss it with your doctor. Even though I was at a year out they still considered me high risk pregnancy and watched me very close.

my surgeon is considering making people sign something agreeing to wait 24 months.. I'm thinking someone must have had issues for him to be thinking that... but I am just speculating.. I know we have a couple of babies on our board that were born before that mark, and are doing just fine..

I dont' think it's so much a concern for a healthy baby more about a healthy mom. Babies take what they need from our bodies regardless if we can spare it or not.
I would definately talk to your doc and find an OB/GYN that has dealth with post GBS pregnancy. If we already need to take double the vits just for normal health then it makes sense that we shoudl need even more during pregnancy....
Interesting thoughts... I'm going to read up on that.
My doc suggested 24 months at least.

My one year is Friday and time has gone by SO fast! I am now off my birth controll for a few weeks and we shall see...... I don't think I was prepared to to stop loosing weight until now. You and your doctor will decide when the time is right. My weight has been at a stand still for several months I would like to loose aroud 10-15 more but the doctor said I can try now. You will be shocked how fast a year will fly by!

That is strange...what is the penalty if you get prego before the 24th month...do you have to name the baby after him??

My Dr 's notes said...18 months for PS and 24 for pregnancy.
I am sure there is "flipped coin" out there but I have only seen the successful stories.
