I am SHOCKED
I just wanted to hear some opinions on something if ya all dont mind. I have a professional friend and we had surgery almost at the same time, hers was 2 weeks before mine. We all see each other in the offices and we all kept asking why she isnt losing the weight. Well its been 9 months and shock of all shocks she just let everyone know she is going on maternity leave. Well if my calculations are correct she would have had to get pregnant very shortly after surgery. I was wondering how this will effect the child and also her WLS outcome after birth. I was just blown away by the news, and I feel bad that she went thru this surgery basically for nothing.

I do not know that it was for nothing.
Sometimes things just happen. There others on the forum who got preggers early post op. Perhaps they have some insight to offer.
As far as the health of the baby, it is my understanding that if when a woman is pregnant the baby get first dibs on all nutrients, there fore rendering mom deprived not baby. So mom may be anemic or other things, but baby should be fine.
The key for this woman is probably what she does after the baby is born. If she uses her tool and sticks to a good healthy nuttrition plan, as w all should do!
Wish her our best!

My surgeon had a patient that got pregnant a week after her surgery. It happens. Birth control fails, or maybe she did it intentionally....we'll never know. Her pregnancy is in her doctor's hands. Maybe this baby was a good thing for her.

Well speaking from experience. I got pregnant 7 months post-op. I was trying to get pregnant but I guess I wasn't really trying to prevent either. But like others have said things happen. I regret getting pregnant so early but my child is a true blessing. Like Rain said I don't think it so much abbout her being pregnant but how she will use her tool once she has her baby. I kind of got stuck in a habit. Eating the same way I did when I was pregnant which was 6 small meals, instead of my 3 meals per day before getting pregnant. I blame myself for not jumping back on board. I have no excusses for my failing in not making it towards goal. I can say I haven't gained any weight and for that I am greatful. Everyday is a struggle to get back on track. Hopefully your co-worker has a lot of support so when she does have her angel she can jump back on board and continue off where she left off to continue losing the weight she needs to lose.

Speaking from experience
I have not posted to this forum in such a long time, but lurk daily. I felt the need to reply to this thread. I got pregnant just three months after surgery. My husband and I waited 18 years for a baby, and frankly thought that I could not have kids. I had an uneventful pregnancy. My daughter just turned 3 last week and healthly as can be. Without the surgery, I would have never had a child. This truly was not planned, but I thank God daily for her! My surgery has also been successful. I had an excellent OBGYN familiar with WLS patients. I took additional vitamins and iron. Since my food portions were so small, I had to eat more small meals a day. The baby takes what it needs first. I was assured that my child would be healthly and encouraged to continue to stay focused on my long-term life style change surrounding loosing weight. I'm not sure what I gained or loss during the pregnancy, because my body was out of whack. However, I started at 294 and the day I delivered my daughter, I weighed 178. Over the next 2 years I managed to pack on about 15 pounds, due to my eating habits and lack of exercise. I have since went back to the pouch rules and have lost the weight. My surgery was not done for nothing! It gave me a tool in which I still use today to maintain a healthy way of life. Most of all, it allowed me to loose the necessary weight to become fertile. My 4th year re-birthday is Friday. (Just a week after my daughters 3rd birthday.) and I wouldn't change a thing. I thank God for the surgery and my daughter. Should I have waited? Probably so. I was adviced that women become extremely fertile after loosing a sufficient amount of weight. However, I'd never in my life been pregnant and truly thought it wouldn't happen. Boy, was I wrong. Again, I wouldn't change a thing. I've worked hard the past couple of months to loose the 15pounds I gained after she was born. I know exercise daily and eat protein/veggies first. I can go on and on, but I won't. I initially stopped posting here because people can be so critical expressing there opinions about post-op pregnancy. But, now I feel like I can be a help to someone in need. I'm a success story, with a healthy child, and a tool that still works 4 years later! Good luck to the prospective parents. Give her support and encourage. Let her know that she will do fine. My OBGYN said that without the surgery, I probably would have been faced with dieabetes, high blood pressure, and a list of other complications during my pregnancy, if I had not lost weight. Ok, I'm done:~) I'm a happy camper at 4yrs out.

What a beautiful testimony. Thank you so much for sharing.
After 11 yrs of trying to have kids and no luck...my hubby and I were blessed with a baby through adoption. Carter is my little sunshine and could not even imagine life with out him and we thank God daily for him!
We hope after my surgery that our fertility issues will be resolved and want to add an addition to our family. Again...thank you for sharing.
