Default 16 days till surgery

I got up this morning and started full liquids. ( not required by my doctor but I want to shrink my liver as much as possible before surgery) I am experimenting with different shakes.. I don't like milk shakes, smothies, malts, any of it... never have... for breakfast I had 27 grams of protein powder mixed with 4 oz skim milk, 1 container yoplait light lemon yogurt and 1 cup frozen strawberries... I managed to choke it down. I am hopin I am hungrier at lunch time and it goes down easier.

Any advice on something that tastes good- maybe something that tastes just like chocolate milk

BSN Lean Dessert Protein makes a protein powder that I think tastes just like chocolate milk. I think the flavor is called chocolate fudge. You actually mix it with water, not milk, but I think it taste like chocolate milk. You can get a sample at Vitalady.com - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals, and Safe Snacks!.

You might want to try chocolate Unjury or chocolate Chike, too. I would mix those in milk, not water.

What was your surgeon`s preference for pre-op diet though? Mine wanted me to just go on low fat diet and that is what I did. If you`re not a great fun of liquid diets anyway why not try other forms of dieting since I understand they all achieve similar outcomes. Good Luck and congrats on your surgery date.

yeah- I don't know how well the 2 week full liquids is going to work out. I have only tried 3 different kinds of protein powder. I am going to take some advice and go to vita lady. Might just have to cut calories and exercise instead of full liquids before surgery. I made it through the entire day today but it was not easy. I just need to remember I can do anything short term

Hey Dj,

You might wanna try Muscle Milk LIGHT in the chocolate flavor. It tastes really good and I even got my friends to try it and they liked it, if that's any indicator that the flavor isn't like other yucky protein shakes. It has 20g of protein and 150cals in the little 8.5oz juice boxes. You can find the juice boxes in a 24 pack at Costco for about $28, which is really cheap for pre-mixed protein shakes. I just throw one in my lunch for work with some lean turkey lunch meat, and a piece of fruit.

You can also probably find them in the 16oz bottles (160cals) at the gym, if your gym carries them or at a GNC. They're a lot more expensive at about $4 each but if you just wanted to try one once before commiting to buying them in bulk at Costco, that might be an idea for you.

Good luck with your goal

I was told by my surgeon that I will need to go on a high protein low fat diet 2 weeks before surgery, something like the Atkins diet.
