Default I have been sleeved!

Went in to GBMC on Monday morning at 5:30am and into the OR at 8:00am. Dr. Liao completed the procedure at about 10am and I was in recovery for only about 1 hour, and then off to my room. I have had little to no pain and I am feeling great!

Dr. Liao came in today and took out my drain, and told me that I was good to go home. I am sitting in my favorite Lazyboy chillin' and getting ready to get some sleep.

Now the real journey begins!

Congrats!

I just came home, myself. I have quite a bit of pain across my abdomen where all my incisions were. I was so happy when they took out my drain this morning, it made breathing quite a bit easier. The point that hurts the most, is the biggest incision where the portion of my stomach was removed through.

Are you able to get much fluid in? How is your breathing?

I was having some pain where the drain was as well. That is pretty much gone since he removed it. I am sipping along, and I seem to be doing pretty good with staying hydrated. Even ate a popsicle at dinner time!

Glad you are doing well!

I do have a question for you though...what is the difference between the sleeve and RNY? I know one removes the stomach and the other doesn't...but what else?

There is no bypass of the small intestine with a sleeve, so there is no malabsorbtion factor with sleeve surgery. My doctor said that he took my stomach from about 1 quart in size to about 5 oz.

Default Melody (band crazy mom)

hey all....does anyone know anything about the doctors at the Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital Bariatric Center in Beaumont, Texas? Drs. Dean, Humble and Scrapps? I thought I wanted the lap band (sounded less invasive), but they told me I have too much to lose...they suggested the gastric sleeve, which sounded ok...I'm scared of the gastric bypass....but in doing some research; several of the sites say it's step one of two and that you have to go back and later do the gastric bypass? I certainly don't want to have 2 surgeries....I can only afford one (insurance will not pay a penny).....has anyone dealt w/this issue? thanks, Melody

PS...I have a long road ahead of me and no surgery date yet...I go and meet w/everyone next Wednesday, 10/14....I am 5'11" and weigh 430 I am sad to admit....but I shall be better before my precious son graduates from high school in 2012!!!
