Default Finally a turning point for me. Yay!!

Hello again Vicki. That site, yep I thought so to, that's why I just had to share it. So encouraged by your progress, thanks for posting it at last, that gives me much hope. When I've had mine, that is the main aspect that I will keep in mind, that I will eventually feel normal.

I've just come back in fromt the hospital. Had my blood pressure checked again, and at last - the first time in 20 years, my pressure is decending, 147/88 WOW. The other bit of good news is that my blood is normal no more sign of anemia, another WOW, first time in about 5yrs. So need for a iron infusion before surgery. Doc. wants to try and bring my pressure down some more as it believes that on the day of surgery my nerves will push my pressure up, so it's best to give it some room to raise without it putting it into the danger zone.

At my weight in today - I've put on a couple of pounds.

I'm now trying to deal with the hair loss that i've been experiencing due to my PCOS. This in itself is so distressing.

Anyway I'm so pleased about your progress though.

Everything sounds good.It is normal to be excited/nervous but from my side of the journey only the excitement counts as being worth anything.
One of the hardest things I have to cope with is finding things to do in all my spare time.Another hurdle is not getting miffed because people are accepting the new me as normal and not commenting on how good I look.I really enjoyed all the fuss that was being made of me.
The hair loss thing is a pain.I have taken all the supplements but can't see a difference unless the fact I do have some hair rather than none is because of them.I had thinning hair pre-op but now it is VERY thin and dull. The dr said it will grow back...hmmmm.I feel like getting a wig but I wonder how hot they get.I suffer from dermatitis on my scalp so I guess it would be very itchy. The funny thing is that my body hair which was never that prolific has also thinned-that is from everywhere except my LIP which is now thicker.Wonderful!!!
Just think your BP is still a bit high now-probably close to what mine was-though my bottom one was a bit higher. When I had my op my BP fell to normal during surgery and has stayed at that point-except during school holidays when my son is not studying for his big final exams (due to sit in a few weeks)!!
I look at my fingers all the time and love holding my hands.I can feel how bony they are.I reality I still have 20 kilos to lose but don't care if I don't lose another.I feel so satisfied with what I am now.I can't imagine how bony my hands would be if I were to lose those 20 kilos.
Can you imagine that this time next year you will be about 25+++kilos lighter. How amazing as once it has gone you won't be getting it back.My doc estimates I will get down to 70 kilos by Xmas-a loss of 35 kilos in close to a year.If only ...but I only now have 9 kilos to reach that-so hard to take in.
Have good visions of what lies ahead for you.
Vicki
PS:I am planning on visiting the UK next year-now I can sit in the seat and put the tray down.If I do we must get together!!!Go shopping for clothes!!!

Default Progress I hope for us all.

Look forward to meeting with you when you come over. I must say, being able to sit on a plane and put the table down without sharing with a friend, which is what I normally have to do. I get so embarrased when I have to ask for an extension strap, or when meals are served, especially when i'm travelling alone.

So much to look forward to. Thanks Vicki, I can see you're a new women. Love and enjoy life. I think you deserve it.

Default I just want to get well and start living!

Aviator, yeah where is he. I'm guessing he's doing well. The last time he was here he explained that he was having a problem with his PC. I think that's what i read.

Anyway, hope you're still living it up. Life is good right? Your question, any news. No. not really. I phoned the hospital again today as we're in Sept. now although it is only the begining of the month. Well this is what i've been told again. The admissions administrator has a meeting tomorrow with the surgeon to discuss Septembers list - (surgery dates). So i'm to phone again tomorrow, late afternoon.

This waiting is getting a little scary. There is one person on this site posting some very scary stuff about potential effects of WLS. I'm not sure if its just Gastric bypass surgery. I really don't wont to think negatively about this. I just want to get well.

Oh before I forget, my blood pressure is steadily going down. I was called back to the hospital on Tuesday because my potassium has raised to 5.1. The doc. assures me that this is not something to worry about right now, but needs to be monitored. He is aware of what is causing it to rise, meds, but feels that since my BP is now down to 137/91 - it is important to get it down before surgery. After surgery, it may be possible to adjust the medication, and generally BP will improve with weight loss. So the sooner the surgery takes place the better for me. God willing.

Don't be scared.I agree some of the posts have been very ........too worrying for words.
The type of surgery that we had/having has been going on for years with people with stomach cancers and ulcers. I asked my surgeon what would be the worst case scenario-for example if I got stomach cancer in the bit I had left.Firstly he said with so little stomach the chances of getting cancer was much less because there was less stomach for it to start in.Then if the worst happenned then I would be able to take food through a port -like a lot of ill/disabled people do without complications.
I think the RNY is much more drastic and is off my list of things to do!!!
Really-I feel as before-even worrying about eating too much, just as I did pre-op!!
I am hungry at breakfast, less hungry at lunch and picky at dinner time.Physically I feel normal.I don't feel like I have had surgery.I just eat a lot less food-that is the only difference. What does irk me is that despite not eating much the weight loss has slowed right down. Then again I don't exercise as I should and I still eat ice cream and chocolate too much.

I had a bad fall the other day.Fell over in a high-school during recess.Lots of kids were watching when I fell flat on my face.My knee is so sore. The reason why I fell? My shoes are all too big now!!!So don't wear old shoes that become too big for smaller feet!!!Learn from my lesson.

The only other difference is what is in my pantry. This bit embarrasses me as it is only my eating habits that have changed in my household. My pantry used to be overflowing but now it is practically bare.My fridge is the same.My kids and my hubby are eating as before so that means all that excess food must have been mine!!!I can't believe it!!!Horrifying.

What I like about this op is that at my stage you can eat just about anything as you did before but you are satisfied much much quicker. For example the other night I craved a choc coated ice-cream.I had to throw some of it out because I just couln't eat it all.It felt like I had been given a bucketfull of ice-cream to eat.It was a chore. It didn't hurt to eat it-I just didn't want it all.
I read somewhere-maybe in that article you posted-that you only need to shop on the perimeter of the supermarket. That is exactly true.I didn't realise that before I read it but that is how I am shopping these days without recognising that I had changed my shopping habits .

Don't worry about those scary posts
Vicki

Default Upwards and Onwards!

Hi

It's sounds all so exciting. Time for you to go on a shopping spree me thinks. lol.

It seems that things are sent to try me. Honestly, I phoned the hospital again on Friday and was told that the meeting between the admissions and the surgeon took place but the surgeon has not given any dates for Sept. What the heck is going on, I don't know. Anyway, I've gone ahead and ordered my fit and fresh products from the USA. I've been holding back, but hey! Well keep you posted.

H.
