Psych Eval
I just got a call today from my case manager, this was the first time I have spoke with her and she got me a little worried about the psych eval saying that the insurance may deny me if the psychologist finds some issues.
Can someone give me some insight to what may happen in this eval? I don't think I have issues but im so nervous!
YIKES!!

My psych eval included answering yes/no or often/sometimes/never for several hundred questions. After I completed the questionnaire, then the psychiatrist talked with me for about a hour. The questions are phrased in a way to catch you if you're trying to say what you think they want to hear . . . just be honest, and you should do fine.

I actually have to go to the psychologist twice!! I was so freaked out about it all because I didn't know what to expect. The first one (that I've been to) he just asked me about myself, like what I did for a living, my education level, single, married, etc, medical problems, family history, if there were any known psychological problems in my family. Honestly is was just a lot of small talk, I didn't feel uncomfortable at all and it was just like a normal conversation with someone you just meet. LOL Except for them writing on a pad of paper! He also told me that our next meet would be the test that Sarah was talking about. Everybody says just be yourself and be honest!! It'll be ok!! We all have to go through it! They just want to make sure that you are mentally prepared for the lifestyle change!! You'll do great!

Mine involved that long questionnaire and they asked the same question in multiple different ways, to see if you're consistent.. then I spoke with the shrink for about 15 minutes, with mostly just general questions and then when we were done she escorted me to the hall, shook my hand and said good luck with my surgery.
It seemed very much like a cattle call to me, as we were all lined up, filling out the forms and then entering her office, one by one all to be escorted out in about the same 15 minutes.

Those quizzes sounds like the ones I've had to take when applying for jobs. I try to be honest, and they are simple questions and still mess up because I over think EVERYTHING. Plus there really isn't a right or wrong but you still feel like your taking a final that will make or break you.
Let's hope all goes well for me when I have to do my pysch eval.
Good luck renaelle, let us know how your goes!

Yes! Perfect way to describe it! Except I spent probably more like 30 to 45 minutes with the psychiatrist. (Longer time in the bull pen )

My psych eval
They warned me that they often do two visits, but mine was only one.
Me and the psychologist talked awhile, and I had to give him my "homework," which included my hand-drawn picture of myself, which was, I thought, dead-on. He seemed to think so, too, because he said I seemed to have a healthy body image.
Otherwise, our talk drifted to current events (at his lead), so I figured I probaby was OK. Also, I took the much-lamented, million-question test. I also just tried to answer honestly.
I've gone through all the pre-surgery steps now, and if my psychologist has gotten his report in, my application for surgical approval should be heading to the insurance folk any time now.
Cross your fingers!

I was so freaked out about my psych eval too, but it really was a breeze.....nothing to worry about.
The first thing she gave me was a paper to fill out. It asked questions like:
Are you depressed? All the time/Sometimes/Never
Have you thought about suicide? All the time/Sometimes/Never
etc....
and after that she just asked questions about my health, if anyone in my family were dealing with depression, how long i've been overweight, why i wanted to have wls...just very candid questions. She cleared me at the end and said good luck with my journey. They aren't looking for ways to deny you, they don't want you to have surgery then have problems afterwards mentally or emotionally. Hope that kinda helped~!
