Question Privately paid Lapband ops in Alberta? Bi-polar?

Hi all,

I have been waiting a year since I got my letter indicating that my application was received by Capital Health and I had been but on the waiting list. I have read more information and it seems that I may never get to the top of the list since, although I am 100 lbs overweight, I do not have any secondary conditions.

Are there any doctors in Alberta that do this operation on a private basis? I know you can get it done in Toronto privately for about $12000.

Also has anyone who is bi-polar been approved or denied on the basis of that condition.

Thanks a bunch, /LindaMG

Default New program

I got a letter that in order to stay in the Alberta program, to be on the list, that I would have to attend orientation in Edmonton (I live an hour away and work full-time). I can't even attend work meetings due to my disorder and they were very rigid and pretty much stated it was their way or the highway. So, I'm out. My doctors' thought it was a bad idea for me anyway. Oh well, I weigh more than ever and am struggling to lose weight, get fit and stay sane. Good luck to you all.

Am a private pay for LP RNY in Raleigh, NC. Are folks really going to India to have surgery? Still trying to get to know my way around this discussion forum...

I was diagnosed with bi-polar and there was no issue with it when I was going through the pre-approval process. When I had my psych evaluation they really want to make sure you are being treated for it and stable. So as long as you are being treated and doing well with the diagnosis then you should be fine. I was worried about the same thing....but don't worry Take care and good luck!

Default RNY and lapband surgery options

I've been doing a lot of research on plastic surgery in Costa Rica. I've also noticed that they do these surgeries as well. Worth checking into, if you have to pay yourself.

Sorry I can't help you with you any doctors in Alberta but I am bi-polar and had Lap Band in 2006. I'm now having a revision to RNY. It wasn't a problem for either surgery. As long as you have a doctor to verify that your condition is under control and you are compliant with your meds, you shouldn't have a problem at all.

Good Luck!
