Gosh, well, I am sorry about your PCP. I changed doctors just as I made my decition to have this surgery, not becaue I did not think he would not agree, but because we been him for years, and honest I am tired of the lack of follow up he has with us. Unfortunally in this small town I can only choose a doctor from the same clinic, so I called in for a list of new doctors and chosed a new one.

I haven't seen her yet, I will the day after Christmas for a pre-op so she can order the blood work, and I have an EKG scheduled just before I go in to see her.

If insurance is involved with paying your surgery, then you are stock on having to have a PCP referal letter. In my case, I went to the clinic I will be having my surgery through and he does not require one, I am self pay, so even if my new PCP does not agree with the surgery, I will go ahead with the surgery. I can always call them to issue the blood work directly themselfs, and they will do it.

I have a long history of this, since I was a child, and my BMI is 70, so nothing will stop me now from getting this, unless EKG or something shows up that says surgery is not good at this point.

I would file a complain about this,, if he is part of a clinic, then file a detail letter, send it so it requires a signature. Give the dates you called over the time and who you talk to etc, and say when he called and what he said. Also mention your appointment dates for this surgery, and do it precise and consized, don't let your emotions show through, but give facts. This his negligence and 3 weeks is more then enough time to write down a letter and hand it over to office staff so they fax it. Is not like he has to sit there and wonder how they will work this,, they do it all the time, it should take him no more then five minutes of his time to do so.

Well best of luck, I hope all gets resolved fast for you, but if you feel it's time for a change, so be it,, after all, this is a new you been born New year, New you, New PCP lol, go all the way while you are at it

Your medical records with any doctor are YOUR records, and you can request copies of them (by going to the office and staying there until you have them in your hands). Another doctor will accept the 12 month diet data.

My own spin on this is that some doctors are so FOR wls and others aren't. My own pcp was lukewarm, but she cooperated. Fortunately, I didn't need a referral letter. It is best, though, to surround yourself with support systems in every form.

Brenda,

My heart broke for you when I read your post! How horrible!! Absolutely change doctors! And his snide little comment to you was beyond unprofessional. Just unbelievable!

And, Brenda, even though you typically have to pay if you get the records for yourself, I think I would do that, too, so you never had to deal with his office again. What a jerk!

I had such a horrible experience with my PCP.

I have been going to him for just under two years when I explained that I wanted a referral for lapband ( I have since changed my mind and want RNY). After talking to him about it and going thru what I have learned and why I wanted to do this, he explained that it was a very serious decision and he would write the referral for me.

I was going to see him in 2 weeks for a blood pressure check so I figured I would get it than. Because my job is 2.5 hours from where I live I telecommute and at times have to go into the office, so I had to reschedule my appointment.

About 3 days after rescheduling I got a letter from my Dr stating I was being dropped from the practice? WTF ??

He said that rescheduling meant I was not taking part in my own healthcare and only had time to work with patients that kept there appointments.

I was sooooooo pisssed !!!! OMG the girl from Brooklyn came right out !!!!!

I called the office and the manager said I had been dropped. I had an appointment in 2 days to get my blood pressure refills. She said I was dropped and he would not see me nor refill my pills. WTF????

So I said I need a copy of my records so I could find a new Dr, and she said that Dr will not release them to me he noted to only release to another medical provider.

I quoted that by law they had to release them to me, and that I would contact my fathers lawyer if I had too. ( He doesnt have one but it worked) The office manager called me back 25 min later and said I could pick them up for a fee, and I said that was fine.

I went to Patrick AFB, the following day and was seen and have been happy there since. Some Doctors care and others are in it for the money.

Tomorrow I am going back to see my PCM and hopefully submitt referral to Tricare. Wish me luck.
