Hello Everyone! My insurance papers were sent out this week. I am just really scared that if I do this surgery, it will be another life change I fail at.
I know all the self talk, positive thinking, but frankly, if that worked for me, I wouldn't be coming upon 20 years of not being able to get this weight off! Is there any lab banders that can help me? How has this been different than any other change you have tried to make? Thanks, Shawna |

Hi, I have all the same worries. I guess we have failed so many times at dieting that it's hard for us to believe that the surgery will work. I have a friend that had gastric bypass and know several others and all have been successful, when they failed at dieting like me, many times before, so it must work for most people.
I have been fighting with my ins. co since April about approval for my lap band. My ins co requires five years of office notes with weights and altho, I have been overweight most of my adult life, I cannot get the written proof they want. ( Long story why). I am now to the point where even though we have ins, I might have to self pay. I hate to, when I know my employer pays for my ins and we contribute monthly as well and it is a covered benefit. Have been very depressed over the whole matter for months now. I am checking to see how much it costs and to see if this is something we can afford to pay for. Good Luck and keep asking questions. |

HI sorry this is a little late.
I thought I would work the band the best I could and really wasnt totally convinced that it would be the end all, be all. But you know what, it has worked! Sometimes it still surprises me how well. I was a very big girl before the band. I actually was going to do RNY but my health dictated and I couldnt. So I went with what was offered. To date I have lost 115lbs. I am thrilled. I hope in 3 weeks when I hit my year I will be at -120. (fingers crossed) ![]() For me it was just what I needed. I used to get hungery on a diet and that is what blew it for me. I would just start eating, and well it went down hill or up hill from there. Now, even if I make a bad choice it isnt HUGE anymore, it will be small because that is all the band allows for. It helps you control the amount you eat and to me that has made the difference. It has helped me a lot. Sure it doesnt make all the choices for you, but the way I think of it there will come a day in any surgery that you chose that you will have to decide what you put into your mouth. So in a way I think of myself a little ahead of the curve, and have learned it right from the off, and not had to learn it years into the journey, and prehaps after a re-gain. Now all this being said I whole hearted believe you have to go with what you know you can live with. (and the Dr will do, on you too) My DH is doing RNY in the next month, and he knows that is what he needs. I think I coulda lived with either, but now in hind sight I think this is the best choice for me at this time. So basically my advice is to read, read, read about the band. Make sure you can live with all the ups and downs. If you cant, then check out your options, and see if you can live with that. Whatever tool you work will be the best tool for you. Good luck with everything,
