Google: How to get off a stuck ring
Do you have a surgery date yet?
You may lose weight before surgery and they'll come off....
- Step One Soak your hand in ice-cold water if it is swollen. Wait 5 to 10 minutes for the swelling to recede.
- Step Two Apply lubricant around the ring and up the length of your finger. Hand lotion, dishwashing liquid or olive oil will do the trick.
- Step Three Twist the ring as you slowly work it up and over the knuckle. You may need to apply some force to get it over the first knuckle. Make sure to twist, not tug.
- Step Four If the ring still won't budge, visit a doctor to have it removed.
I did this once... had an anxiety attack due to the frustration... and it hurt! good luck... Let us know what happens!

I couldn't get my ring off either, it had been 15 years! My prep nurse was understanding and wrapped it with surgical tape. I did have it cut off in '94 when I had an accident on a ladder . Yup, all of my weight dangling by my ring that was caught on the top of an OSHA approved ladder.

I know at the hospital where I work they use Windex. It doesn't always work but I've seen it work when I never thought it would. If you can't get it off see if they are willing to just tape it. I know I've had mine taped in the past when I had surgery.

I couldn't get my rings off either for surgery and it was no problem - they just taped over it. They must have removed the tape before I even woke up cuz I never saw it on there, so clearly they do it all the time. Sometimes there is concern about edema and fingers losing circulation due to surgery, etc. and also bacteria in the rings, but these are small potato problems compared to what the surgical staff has to deal with in there so I've never known anyone to push it to the extreme of cutting them off. If your surgeon insists (ask him on your next visit or call him) have a jeweler cut it off and they can also repair it right away so you can have it back on right after surgery - I wouldn't trust a doctor to cut on my rings anymore than I would trust a jeweler to do my RNY! =)!!!
