Default Pre Op Lab Band Diary - D Day 27th August 2007

Hi Everyone

Firstly would like to say thank you for all the help and support on this website, it has been a tremendous source of information to me over the last few days as I prepare for my op on 27th August.

I thought it might be a good idea to post my Pre Op thoughts and feelings and struggles with the detox on here so I can get as much help as possible from you guys.

My Current (highest) weight is 280lb and over the last 12 months have started to develop what I call little niggles (small illnesses) that keep reoccurring and are starting to become tiresome - aches and pains, tiredness, limited movement, constant diarrohea, breathlessness and just general low energy levels - all I know associated with obesity. This together with the frustration of not being able to buy fashionable clothes off the shelf and having to trawl around the limited "fat shops" (as I call them in the UK) to find something that is only somewhat adequate. So I have had enough and have decided to take back the control in my life.

I start my detox tomorrow, not necessarily on the advice of the surgeon but because of what Ive read on here. My surgeon said that light meals without meat and plenty of liquids for two days prior would be sufficient. But I have decided that I want to bring my internal organs to the table as healthy as possible.

So tomorrow will be Day One of my detox and I have an Ultralife Detox Plan for 7 days and I intend to drink slim fast shakes and stick to light broths and soups and drink humungous amounts of water (which I hate), and plenty of fruit juices with my juicer (will try and get some spinach in there to boost iron levels).

Fingers crossed that I can stick to it ! Will keep you all posted. I am trying to get a picture put on my profile but I am finding it hard to get the picture that I took below 19KB as required on the profile. Will have to speak to my IT friend.

Default Day One

Hi Guys

Not too bad today although I was tested at lunch time when we had a welcome lunch for one of our new members of staff and everyone had carvery except me - I had soup !!

Anyways, I started off with my detox drink this morning and then the extra water that I have to drink afterwards and by the time I got into my car to work i felt like I was sloshing around !!! (Dont usually drink loads of water - but its somethng that I will have to get used to)

Had a veggie drink shot for elevenses and a multivitamin, omega 3 fish oil capsule and a garlic capsule. Went out for lunch and had the 3rd degree as to why I was only eating soup.

Had a consultation with my surgeon today and he assured me everything was fine and answered any last minute questions I had. He still tells me that no meat for 3 days prior to the op is fine. No great need for a 7 day detox however he said it was up to me.

I have also been introduced to the daughter of a friendd of my mums today who went through the procedure in May and she just lives down the road from me so she has said that she will also be a post op buddy.

Home from work and had Oxtail Soup which is one of my favourites so that cheered me up and then I had a slim fast shake later. Again drunk copious amounts of water throughout the day and spent most of the time running back and forth to the toilet - but all for a good cause !

6 days to go !

Thumbs down Day Two

Hi Guys

I am so hungry I could eat my own head !!!!!!

I was doing OK this morning with my detox drink and the water and sloshed my way off to work but I was ravenous by 11.00am !!!!

Had a couple pieces of fruit to try and take my mind off it but I caved in at lunch and had a small bowl of pasta (oh dear). OK not a major league offence but Im thinking if I cant even manage two days, what am I going to be like after the op ?

Looking back at my life I think Ive only manage to stick to one thing and thats motherhood !!

Just feeling a bit of a failure and wondering if Im going to make it or am I just wasting my money !

Stuck to the water requirements. Hopefully I will be better tomorrow. Think I might have to go to bed to stop me from eating anything else

5 days to go (and counting)

Default Day Three

Sorry Guys, been pulled out with work, not been here for a couple days.

Anyhow, Day Three was much better after I had a rant to myself. I stuck to my shakes and Im actually quite liking water now which I find bizzare. In fact driving home I nearly got through a 1.5 litre bottle in one go which is a bit of a first for me!!

Wondering if its the detox drink that is making more thirsty mmmmm?

Oh well it must be doing me good because I am starting to feel a bit more energised and not so sluggish. Only dropped 3lbs tho

4 days to go !!

Default Day Four

Hi Guys

The unquenchable thirst is getting slightly worst as I have got through 2.5 litres of water today and am starting to notice a fine coating on my tongue and my skin has broken out in spots (havent had any since I was a teenager).

This must be a side effect of the detox drink which is probably kicking out all the toxins in my body. I feel fine though so am not too concerned.

Tonight I am meeting with my new Lap Band Buddy who had hers done in May and she has lost 4 stone. Im quite excited.

Im packing my hospital bag tomorrow night and am starting to feel a little nervous although am really excited about getting it done and I cant wait to get stuck into the regime, especially now I like water lol.

And ive come across a likeminded bander whos having the operation at the same time and on the same day as me but in Florida - small world. We have decided to keep in touch via email. Will need asll the support I can get.

3 days to go

Default Day Five

Hi Guys

Ive just eaten a chocolate marsh mallow tea cake (mini size of course) and it was fantastic !!

I thought bugger it - I may never have one again lol !! Well not for a while anyway. The rest of the day was fine though

Have conquered my thirst problem and have become "Woman from Atlantis" and am awash with peach flavoured water !! However I am realy liking it.

Ive been and bought some new night wear, as you do when you go into hospital cause if Im going through all of this, Im determined to go through it with my fashion sense in tact !!

Met with my new band buddy last night and she gave me loads of diet sheets and showed me her dishes (sounds rude ), cant believe how small they are !

She took pride in showing me her scars as well, I was surpised how neat and small they were, dont know why I had visions of being slit from one end to another, even though Ive had it explained to me.

Im going to be doing my measurements tomorrow night and setting up my weight loss journal on my computer, so when I look like Catherine Zeta Jones , I can remember when I was a big girl lol.

2 days to go !!

Default Day Six

Hi Guys

Had lots of visits today from friends and family who have come to wish me good luck. Mum came over and did her usual last minute fuss.

Trying to tie up last minute loose ends - instructions for husband, son and dog !! Meals in the freezer, ironing and housework !

Will it all be the same when I get back or will it look like world war III has struck. To be quite honest I am looking forward to the break as Ive been having to do the same with work at work as well, no wonder Im tired !!

Food OK today, had toast this morning and usual shakes and water, but am going to a party tonight, hoping that I can resist the buffet !!!!!......and the booze !!!!

One more day to go
