Default Operation booked but questions unanswered

Hi all
I am new to this. Lap band surgery booked for 4 weeks time but I am worried. Can anyone offer any light on the following:-

- what happens if you cannot stick to the 2 week liquid diet pre-op? I am really worried about it, not sure I can do it.
- everyone on this site keeps talking about protein but I am a vegetarian (hence carbs the main staple of my diet) so I am very worried about how i can eat after the op based on the recommended high protein, no carb diet.
- most importantly, I am not clear how much weight i can expect to lose. I reads it is 50% of my excess weight but i don't understand this. If my food intake is restricted long term and i eat less calories then I spend, why would my weight loss not take me down to a regular, non overweight size?

any offers, please help, my head is spinning.

Hi

Congrats on your surgery date! How exciting!

I am not a vegetarian, but I looked a few things up for you. First I found a site that has vegetarian portein Here http://www.nextag.com/vegetarian-protein/search-html

I think you will have to up your Soy intake once you are allowed to eat again. You may have to always keep that "protien" drink in your diet so you consume enough protien, I dont know tho. what does your Dr say?

I dont know which veg. you are. If you eat eggs, yogurt, and drink milk then that will help in your quest of protein. But I kinda assume you dont, but incase you do there is a idea for you.

The 2 weeks liquid is a little hard to wrap your mind around. (I didnt have to do that long) But I know the first 2-4 days are the worst when you are kinda detoxing. You can do it! Just keep your eye on the prize!!!

good luck for your surgery, I am one week through the post band now and feel fine again, still on liquids,

pre operation I flew to the Philippines for my surgery and commenced my diet (all liquid) seven days before, I used a combination of herballife shakes and soups to diet, backed up with lots of fruit juice and waters, I found the first few days hard, the second few days slightly easier and then hell weight was flying of so I kept going, post op I can not manage a bowl of soup without feeling full, or now just half a shake, so its easier and easier each day, I even took the family to pizza hut last night and just had the cream of mushroom soup myself before getting into a feeling of illness caused by overeating.

I understand that lap banding is a two year target to manage your weight down to your normal or as close to weight, as long as you manage calories in verus calories burnt in exercise you should lose without hunger thats the main benefit of the operation.

Good luck

James
