Default What to record in food diary?

As part of my things to do before we submit the paperwork to the insurance company is a 21 day food diary. I have a dilemma though. I feel so awful right now about my weight that I would like to drop maybe 10 lbs or so before surgery. However, what is the insurance company expecting to see in my food diary? Would I be hurting my chance of approval if I write down a Weight Watchers food plan which I would be following? Or should I wait 21 days before I start the diet?

Maybe the insurance company or doctor could tell you what they expect. I would have to guess that you should record quanitity of food, type of food and to practice, why not start calculating protein for each meal. You will need to know this for post-op. I like to write down exercise done that day and any feelings that went along with the day...ie: hungry, thirsty etc. You should also track liquids...ie: how many oz. and type of liquid.

Default Just be honest

I don't think they are looking for anything - most likely a hoop to jump through unless it is going to be turned into a nutritionist.

Just write it down - if you lose some weight, all the better. Of course, write down what you eat, how much, when, calories, fat, protein and carbs if you can stand it.

I wouldn't second guess what they want. Just write down what you're eating.

My surgeons office gave us a Form (that I put in excel because I am a geek!)... they asked for:

Meal (Brk, Lunch, Din)
Food or Drink Consumed
Amount
Start Time
Finish Time
How did you feel?

The times are because my surgeons office also has a requirement that we take at least 20 minutes to eat a meal and no more than 30...
