Default Sleep Test Tonight

Ok I have my sleep test tonight to see if I have sleep anea. It was going to be in mid July but I was on the cancelation list and they called me mid morning today to say of a cancelation for tonight, so that is short notice but I am glad I don't have to wait. What is this test like for those who have had it done? What if I CAN"T fall asleep? I am just a little nervous right now. Thanks!

Congratulations on the move up of the test. Never had it done so can't help you there, but there are plenty of others here that have had it done and can answer your questions. Good Luck, tonite!

They can give you a sleep aid. I don't know what it is because I can sleep anywhere! The hardest part for me was sleeping on my back. Even when I got the C-Pap machine I used it on my side most times. Just wear something you are comfy in that is discreet. There's not much to it really. They hook up some electrodes and watch you sleep. the place I went to tests you a few hours to see if a machine will help, then they come in and put it on and try a few settings for the doc to see how you did on each one. No pain involved, no embarrassment......one of the easiest pre-op events.

Oh Marty - I only wished to have had a sleep aid!!! I couldn't sleep because I was in a strange place and knew someone was watching me, but it really was easy. It was because I couldn't sleep that they had to give me the darned machine that was used for 2 weeks pre-op and still sits in its cute little carrying case even today - I really need to return it!!!

well i am back, everything went fine. They went over a little with me what happened to me through the night. She said I never stopped breathing but that my breathing got very shallow and close to stopping several times through the night. I snored a lot and my lef jerked more than anyone she had ever seen before..haha.. She said I had a few irregular heart beats.. So I am just curious what the doctor will say when they get these results , if this means I do or don't have sleep apnea. I am very curious!! Thanks everyone..

Glad to hear it went well. Please post more information when you get it. I am interested in knowing more about it as well. I have not had the tests done, and thought for sure I would have had them by now

Sure I will, my sleep study was originally set up for July 22nd, but since my insurance's fiscal year ends on July 1st with starting over all the deductibles and so on I asked if I could please be but on a cancellation list and thankfully they called me yesterday afternoon for that night, yes it was VERY short notice but I am glad I got it done now and not 2 months from now.. Mindy
Dorothy, maybe you don't need to take the sleep test. Not everyone does..

well i just talked to the nurse at the doctor's office and she said they got the results back and she said I had mild sleep apnea, so I guess this is good as far as my insurance goes. She said my blood work came back fine, and now to schedule the Psych Eval.. woo hoo..

Mindy, that is good news. Now you can continue on toward your goal! And since it is only mild sleep apnea it will probably go away fairly quickly with your weight loss.
