Default Questions about protein drinks and Vitamins

I just got approved for surgery on May 12th and I was wondering if I can get the liquid vitamins and protein shakes from a local store? I hear people talk about Nectar drinks and getting them online. I don't like to buy things online so I wanted to know where I can buy the things I need.

Any other pre/post-op advice would be helpful too!!
Thanks!

Whatever health food stores you have around should carry these......it's just a matter of finding ones you can stand to drink. Maybe you should read through all the posts and write down some people's favorites that sound like something you might like so you can check and see what the local stores have. I know GNC has some supplements that taste ok....one was called cookies and cream, they also sell Isopure which a few people talk about, and they sell the Stallone protein pudding. Vitamin Shoppe has Nectar I think, and the Power Crunch bars a lot of us like. At GNS near me (don't know if they all do) they kep a little shaker of protein drink you can sample. Good luck and welcome to the board.

At first I did 2 kids chewables, but that got old quick....ick. I switched to regular tablets about 5-6 weeks out. Then I switched about a month ago after reading on here about liquid getting absorbed better. When I thought about it I realized I have never felt different from taking vitamins. Now that I take the liquids I swear i can tell. I am taking one that was recommended on here on an old thread. It's called Daily Vita Plus. I get it online, so I don;t know where else you can get it. I would say if you get a liquid read carefully as to what a dose is. My dose is nly .5 oz. Some are a full ounce, which means the bottle that looks cheaper isn't because it goes 1/2 as far, not to mention that many of us can tolerate very little after surgery. I had nausea for a few months and drinking crushed meds and chewing any chewables was like torture! Also, don't stock up on supplements until you taste them after surgery. Your taste buds can change! I ended up mailing people supplements after I spent a small fortuen on them. If you go to a support group later, maybe people can bring in samples and trade them.

If you find an Isopure that you like please post it... I have tried a grape one and I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth fast enough! I was seeing a nutritionist who raved about the drinks but I could never go back... How lame huh? But I have heard that they are good for you so I would like to find one that I like, but...

I would just buy a few things because your taste will change. I know that GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe has a lot of cool things. I do know of some who use the Nectar. I really need to get some and add it to my drinks. I get all of my vitamins at Henry's. I got a liquid form of the multi-vit. at Costco. I heard that the spray vitamin is good, too.

I just got a few flavors of the Isopure to taste and I like the Passion Fruit and the Orange the best the others were so-so. I need to be on a liquid diet three days before the surgery and they recommended the Isopure so I thought I might get a case (12 bottles). I also got chewable vits and chewable calcium and sub-lingual B-12. I wasn't sure about the chewable, but the saleslady said the liquid vits are nasty. They gave me samples of pro-pudding to try. I think I'll try those tomorrow. I've heard people talk about Profect-does anyone know what that is?

I get a liquid calcium supplement from my local store that I love compared to the horse pills. It also has Vitamin D and Magnesium. Pleasant Orange taste which is a nice change from all the berry flavored crap we have around the time of surgery.

Don't buy too much stuff...your tastes and senses will play evil tricks on you. I made my own broth pre-op and couldn't stand it post op.
