Melanie...
I had severe sleep apnea as well and my Dr required me to be on that gosh darn machine for 30 days also prior to my surgery. When we have sleep apnea, we never quite reach that last level of deep sleep where our bodies are really at rest and repair themselves. (At leat that was always my understanding) So, by being on the CPAP machine for 30 days it helps our bodies get ready for that major surgery. Basically we need to be at our physical best before surgery and being on the machine will help us acheive that. I hated that machine and my mind would take over while I was asleep and I would pull the mask off. I thought that was a problem and my Dr said if I used it for any period of time it was better than none at all. Hope that helps. Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted!
