Job worries
Well I am having issues with the women I work with (I work with ALL women!) and have decided to pursue a job that would be more of a professional atmosphere that I can later use to spring board to an internship. I applied to work at DSS as a daycare intake coordinator. I feel confident with my abilities to handle the job. The only thing I worry about is screwing up my surgery date. I have a time sensitivity as I am sep and I want my xh insureance to cover the 20% that my primary insureance doesn't cover. So...I never ask for prayers but I am now. I hope to have surgery around my b-day 4/14/79 use two weeks to recover and then into the new job. I just have anxiety hoping the time will balance out and I don't want to mention it in the interview. The kicker is the job pays THREE TIMES what I make now!!!!
Thanks for reading

I wouldn't want to mention the surgery either but do you think 2 weeks is enough time to recover? Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Give yourself recovery time....
Remember what Julie said.....the reason they give us 6 weeks is we need 2 weeks to recover and 4 weeks to learn how to eat and take care of ourselves and function. The recovery time is really helpful. Just think about it. I personally have not had the surgery yet, but I have taken all the classes and done an extensive amount of reading, research, and talking with those who have had the surgery.

At your new job, will you get to sit most of the day? I felt like I was ready to go back to work after 2 weeks - had planned to in fact - then my appointment with the surgeon to get cleared to go back was moved a week, because the surgeon had to be out of the office. My company wouldn't let me come back until I had seen the surgeon, so I ended up staying out 3 weeks. I'm an insurance agent so I sit at a desk all day, and I haven't had any problems with being too tired, etc. The only problems I have had are with eating at work - I am 6 weeks post op now, so I have been back at work 3 weeks. Since it was kinda early when I went back, I was still learning what I could eat and how much, so there have been a few times when I have felt sick because of something I ate. One time I had a dumping incident with strawberry banana baby food (I MISS fruit!) and another time I was trying to eat too quickly, and ended up in the restroom throwing up. So I would encourage you if you plan to go back after just 2 weeks to be cautious with the food that you take with you, and make sure you set aside designated eating times where you can eat slowly and carefully to avoid eating related problems at the new job. I take an insulated cooler with me and it usually has some string cheese, some applesauce, some sugar free pudding, and then 2 small meals worth of food (a few ounces of high protein entree and 1/2 cup of a canned veggie). I never eat all of the food that I take, but I want to be able to have a variety to choose from. I also keep a high protein breakfast bar, some soup, and some soy crisps in my desk as a just in case sort of thing. I am still at the stage where I don't ever really want to eat, so I make myself eat on a schedule and keep track of my protein to make sure I am getting enough. Also, get a large insulated cup if you don't already have one, so you can keep water (crystal light, etc) at your desk all the time. Good luck!

Learning a new job is stressful and learning a whole new way of eating and living is also stressful. You need to start your new lifestyle in a serene and trouble-free emotional state. Is any way to avoid having these two new chapters of your life coincide?
Two weeks is not much of a recovery time. It's not likely to happen, and I am not trying to scare you, but what if you are one of the minority of people who have complications during surgery? Then you'll surely need more than two weeks off. If it were me, I wouldn't plan to start a new job so soon after WLS.

Now is the time to focus on YOU
I know the money is better...but money and work are not the most important thing..I have learned.
Keep your current job
Tell the job you want that you have some medical issues ( or say family medical issues) that you have to deal with before you can focus on your new career. Ask them if you can start lets say two months after surgery.
If not..then it is not the job for you!
Go to the job you have..loose weight..feel better about yourself then look for an even better job than that one.
Good luck!

Everyone is different. I could have gone back in one week. But, you need to just listen to your body and go from there. I hope it all works out for you. I'm a firm believer in everything works out for the best. So, I'm sure it will for you, too.

Good luck with the surgery and job. Don't tell....they may think you won't be recovered in two weeks. You will be very tired. Are you having it lap or open? I will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope all goes well.

health worries first
Hello there. please consider what has been answered here to your origanal post. the recovery time is given so that you have time to adjust to your new situation, It took me six weeks just to get where I could function on my own. I was supposed to stay with my buddy and his family the forst week out of the hospital. i ended up staying 6 weeks because I could not get my feet back on the ground. Why not tell the new job what is going on and see what they say. They may be suprisingly cooperative with the situation. If the want you and need you they will go along with the surgery schedual.Just my opinion. cj skinner

Not sure if you're having lap or open. I am 3 1/2 weeks out from open and am so glad I took 5 weeks off rather than 4 because I get absolutely wiped out. I was cleared to drive yesterday, and still have my mom helping me at home. I can shower by myself, but feel better right now if someone is there with me just in case.
Take this time for you and your healing and to discover your new relationship with food - it will be worth it.
