Default I'm scared! In need of your thoughts

I think I should get approved from the insurance in the next week. My surgeon's office said it is likely that I could have surgery the last week of March. I am so scared that I am not going to be stong enough to do this. There is so much to this. I know I can do the initial weight loss but I am so scared that in the long run I will go back to my old ways. Is this a normal feeling or do you think I should not do this. My feeling is it is nerves. I know this is what I want to do but I am scared. Did any of you have therapy after the surgery for the mental part of it? Please let me know you thoughts. Talking to you all and reading what everone is going through is my therapy.
Thanks in advance for the love and support.
Christy

Christy I am sorry you are feeling this way. I will be honest with you, even after WLS you still could fall back into bad habits. I would highly recommend finding someone to help you through your bad habits. There are psychiatrist or psychologist who specialize in eating behaviors. I think it would increase your chances for success post-op if you address these issues now. I hope you find the peace that you are looking for in your journey.

Denise:
Excellent advice - I think talking stuff out with a trained professional helps. I went to a counselor when my ex and I were going through our divorce - and I don't know what I'd do without her....she made me strong enough to do what I knew I had to do.

Does anyone in North County SD have a recommendation on a therapist that understands GBS patients and what we're going through? I live in San Marcos. You can PM me if you don't want to post here. Thanks in advance!

I felt the same way Christy. I plan on going to Overeaters Anonymous and staying active with support groups. I don't want to go through all of this to fail. So I'm going to be proactive and surround myself with the kind of people that will help me "do the right thang". I think counseling is definitely a good idea.

Don't forget the surgeon's support groups. Our East County group is wonderful. I get encouraged and get great info there.
