Default Husband had Consult

My darling husband, Mike, had his consult with our surgeon on Thursday. She reviewed his history and said he'd be a great candidate. He meets with the nutritionist soon. All we're waiting for is approval from Medicare, and then his pre-op labs. She said they could schedule it whenever he wanted, so it could be in the next couple of weeks! He said that I was his guinea pig, so to speak, because I've done so well since my surgery on 5/26, so he's ready for it. Strange thing, though, is I'm scared for him. I know how dangerous the surgery can be. He's about 5'11" and 344 lbs. He has had a total hip replacement, knee surgery, shoulder (twice), borderline high bp, and he's only 40 yrs old. I know this surgery will save his life and probably prevent any further joint surgeries. I'm still worried to death, and I don't want to see him in pain. Any words of wisdom from husband/wife, or partner/partner surgery teams???

Thumbs up Step in the right direction!

Hi Tabitha - I'm happy to hear that your husband had his consult. I had surgery on 8/3 of this year and am doing great. My husband said that he would consider the surgery if I did well. Well, I guess I'm doing well, because his consult appointment is on the 5th of October. He's had two back surgeries within the last 2 years. The last one which was done in August of 2003, was to fuse two of his discs. Talk about being nervous while he was in surgery. That one lasted a good 6 hours. I'm confident that he will pull through this one with flying colors, but of course I will be worried for him during the surgery. Your husband will do just fine also. Imagine how awesome he's going to feel when the weight starts dropping. His aches and pains will be minimal. I'm not sure about you, but I know my aches and pains have decreased since I've started losing weight. You will each help one another get to your goals. I'm looking forward to Bill and I being more active with our kids and their sports. I'm looking forward to going for power walks with Bill. Keep us posted on his progress. I wish you both all the best!
