Default DH has an official surgery date!

Hi!I'm Tina and I just began posting the other day when a friend of mine from another online community (Witchypoo) joined up here....I'm 34 and live in Massachusetts with my DH Ray (33) and our boys TJ (3) and Ryan (2).....Ray is 6 foot 8 (yes, really that tall!)....and has had a serious obesity problem since a severe asthma attack in his teens began him on a road with prednisone.....His highest weight was this past October at 457 pounds....he has currently lost 34 pounds and is just about down his 10%.....he has attended NEMC-Tufts University obesity clinic and just got his official surgery date for the RNY: MARCH 6!!!!! I'm excited and nervous and hope to get more information for him as he knows I'm the (excuse the term) "computer whore" in the family! Thanks everyone!

Welcome Tina (and Ray). I'm the designated computer whore in this house as well. You'll find this site has alot of information in it. And what one person doesn't know, someone else surely will.

LOL at your term.....too funny. Welcome to the board. I am happy for you and hubby that he has his date and look forward to hearing about his progress. I think it's awesome that you are so involved in this with him. It is great to have the support from your SO. There is so much info on here on about anything you can imagine......and some stuff better left out of the imagination! Stick around.......and tell Ray we send best wishes.

thanks everyone!

the whole support thing is interesting....

Ray has tended to have his Mom doing things for him most of his life before me, so when it came to weight loss, I wanted him to take the lead.....he spent two months at the obesity clinic (two months' worth of appointments) and had only lost 11 pounds (plus he was on Xenical)....I finally decided to go with him to one of his appointments (December 14th!) and the doctor turned to me and asked, "So what are you doing to help Ray?" "ME???!!!What do you mean I have to do something?!!!".....so realizing that Ray was not going to get the surgery until he showed some weight loss, I got the entire family in gear.....trying really hard to help my boys have healthy weights (they are very tall for their ages and at risk of course because of us)....and I myself started counting calories, watching portion sizes and eating Lean Cuisines, etc....

since that December appt, Ray lost an additional 23 pounds in 5 weeks and to date, I've lost 26!!!People are amazed at how we look and it will only get better with time.....now I can't imagine how people go through wl surgery without family support!

Welcome fellow "computer whore"! LOL it is great to have you! Congrats on your weight loss and your hubby's as well. Also, congrats on his March 6 date! I'm so glad you are so supportive of your hubby. I hope you find all the info and support you need here and please, tell Ray not to be shy. He can learn a lot here and it would be great to have him on board as well.

LOL...Ray definitely does not = shy!!! He is a disc jockey and he goes by the name DJBIGDADDY! (We hope to rename him Slim Daddy!).....he's probably the most outgoing person you could ever meet....he is just not one for community message boards...seems a bit "girlie" for him (his loss, I love them!)....but thank you everyone for the great welcome! I'm so happy my friend Denise pointed me this way!
