I'm new with surgery TOMORROW!
Hello everyone! I just found this board and I'm glad to be here. It's perfect timing too- my surgery is scheduled for TOMORROW! (2/7) I'm having a lap bypass and I'm nervous, excited, ancious, impatient... all rolled up into driving myself nutty today.
I'm a mom of 2 - a 2.5 year old and a 7 month old. My husband is very supportive but I don't think he really knows what is ahead of us (he's not having surgery - just dieting).
I've been on clear liquids all day today - have done my bowel prep and I'm STARVING! I'm wondering how I'll ever make it through the evening!
Any words of advice about tomorrow????

You'll will do great! Where in MA are you having your surgery done? I had mine at Mass General this past August. Tonight will be hard to sleep, so just try to get to bed early so you can maybe get a couple of hrs in. I was not able to sleep at all the night before, me nerves where just too much. I will be keeping you in my prayers tomorrow! Good Luck!

Welcome to our little family! Just like Whitney said...don't forget to breathe!! It will be an emotional rollar coaster. I remember crying SO MUCH the day before my surgery. I was SO scared and so nervous also! Just remember that all that is normal. You are preparing to start a new life and sometimes we are so afraid of the unknown that our emotions go WACKY!! Good luck on your surgery and make sure that you let us all know how you're doing after you get home. Even if it's just a sentence or two saying you made it to the other side. Don't forget to walk and sip, sip, sip!!!

Thank you all SO much!! Today has actually been a pretty good day emotionally. I've been SO busy getting meals ready for the kids, getting laundry done, writing out schedules and lists for my husband (who's not used to managing 2 kids) - I haven't had time to really sit down and do 'nothing' but think. I'm supposed to put a scopolomine patch on at bedtime- not sure if that will wire me or make me sleepy- I'm hoping for sleepy. I don't sleep great at night anyways (I have a cold and a almost 7 month old) so if I get 3-4 hours in that's considered success.
Chapstick is in the bag as well as mouthwash, basic toiletries, some magazines and a good raunchy book.
My life is so crazed with the 2 kids that this is almost like going on vacation!!!
I will be sure to post in the postop forum once I'm home! And I plan on being here a LOT because I will really need to be in touch with others that are going through / have gone through this jouney!!

I hear you!!
I know what you mean about having all these things to do for your kids before you go. I have two children as well, but I had no significant other to help me with them. My brother actually took care of them for me. I thought I would be WAY WAY WAY out of it because of the liquid Codine I was supposed to take for pain, but I never even took one sip of that. The pain was ALOT less than I thought it would be. Just kind of hurt when I made the mistake of trying to lay down on the bed to sleep. Of course getting back up was WORSE!! We look forward to hearing from you when you get home! Again, good luck and God bless you!

Does your doctor know about your cold?! I know other dear ones here who had slight fevers that they had to postpone. I will pray for your surgery that it goes off without a hitch

Yup- I talked to them on Friday when it was bad. I have no fever, no severe congestion and no sore throat. I just have some minimal post nasal drip that's making me cough but that's it. The nurse I talked to said don't worry about it and talk to anesthesia in the morning about a decongestant postop if I need it (the post nasal drip may get worse after the surgery from the intubation tube).
