You sound well reasoned, and informed about what you want..which is great. I would suggest checking into case studies on the long term effects on patients who were of your age group. This may give you an insight you weren't aware of.
What ever happens, good luck. The best advice I can give is be Prepared. Talk to your Dr. with all the information on everything you have done to lose the weight...your history everything. Knowledge is POWER, be sure you have oodles of it!

lol, thanks...I know I am afraid I may not tell my Doctor something important. I feel like I am going to take the SAT's or something.

Need your help...
Hi Eric,
Welcome to the Thinner Times Forum. This place and the people are amazing. The amount of information is astounding and the people are the best.
Growing up, I was the big fat guy too. Although I never did grow up, I did grow out.
I lost track of how many diets my parents put me on...only to gain the weight I lost back plus some.
The last diet I was on was Optifast. I was able to do it for 6 months & lost almost 35 lbs. but then I started getting sick and couldn't continue. I then tried to do the Atkins, and actually gained weight!
I started researching and looking into the WLS several years ago when a surgeon told me he wouldn't do the disc replacement surgery I needed until I got under 200 lbs.
You might want to discuss this stuff with a good therapist. I'm sure your Dr knows one.
I sure hope the Forum helps you and if you need another guy to talk to, shoot me a PM.

Another guy! Great. Glad to see I am not the only one,
Yeah, I hope to try and tell my Doctor all the information I can give him.
I got an idea from someone on ObesityHelp.com that when he went to his PCP, he wrote down all his information......past diets...their time frame....health problems...etc.
Should I do that?

By all means!! Make sure you have everything documented. Make sure you sit and think about all the problems you have had, no matter if you think it is weight related or not. Your Dr can make that decision!
Heck, I even included several problems with my knees & heels that I know weren't related to my weight problems, but my Dr was able to add them to the list as being troublesome because of weight!
Good luck Dude!!

Hey, you should have SEEN the ginourmous (it was way bigger than enormous) file that I hauled into the office! I was so dang powerful that I hurt my back carrying it all!! I had lists of lists of notes of info...etc...it really was OCD and out of control, but I wanted to be sure...ya know. Funny thing, I didn't have to say too much...my Dr. was with me 100% from the moment I said I was sure. I am sure you will do fine...SAT or RNY it's all about your FUTURE!!

Eric,
You sound like a neat kid. I certainly think you've done your homework and have given a lot of thought about this. I am behind you for sure. Good luck and keep us updated!

Document everything. Continue seeing a therapist. That person can be a great help in advocating for you and also for on-going follow-up post bypass. Continue to read and inform your self and your family. This is a family disease. They need just as much info so they can support you fully regardless of which decision you make. Direct them to this site and keep us posted on your progress.
