Talking Good Luck

Phil:

I'm so happy for you! I know you've been very thorough with this process and, now that you've decided WLS is for you, it's gone really quickly.

You have a great attitude, so this major life event will be a wonderful experience for you!

Take care of yourself!

Default You kids are all too fabulous!

Thanks, everyone, for your enthusiastic support!

I'm just so amazed that this thing has progressed so far so fast... my natural pessimism (learned behavior?) tends to make me think things are going to be harder to accomplish than they are... I was SO sure my insurance would give me a hard time. Whew!

As for seeing you at the meeting tomorrow --- isn't that a post-op only meeting? I crashed one of these already, don't want to do it again...

I'm telling more folks at work now that I have a date... and among the first five people I told, three of them knew someone (relatives for two of them!) who have had the surgery! Who knew? Small world we live in...

For the next few days, I'll be keeping my fingernails well-trimmed so I can't bite them! Actually, I'm pretty calm - but excited - about it. I imagine it'll get a little freaky once I get within a day or two of the surgery.

So.. what should I take to the hospital? Here's what I've gleaned from browsing discussions: my own pillow; comfy/roomy casual shirt & pants; cpap machine; a positive attitude; chapstick; an empty stomach; light last meals in my gut; a good vein for blood letting; something to read while waiting...

anything else?

Default Nine days to go....

It's starting to get interesting. I've had some thoughts, which to me at least, are profound and life-changing. To avoid a LONG post here, you can click here to see my blog diary.

Phil,

I loved reading your diary. It is very interesting reading six months later I tell ya. I did one also on obesityhelp.com and reading it now is weird.. but I will always keep it to remember where I've been and what I was feeling prior to surgery... it's important.. it's the kick in the butt you need when you start to realize you can graze or snack or whatever.. It keeps it real for me and I am thankful..

You'll be glad you have that journal.. take care and wishing you all the luck possible in your surgery and recovery. You'll do great.. you've already got a great head on your shoulders.. pretty soon those shoulders will be bony but good none the less..

Default Phil,

I also enjoyed reading your bio. I wish I would have kept up with something like that during my journey, because my memory is not what it used to be, damnit!

You have such an elloquent way of saying what's on your mind. I hope you'll continue to write, it's a great way to relieve the stresses of the mind. I've heard it's good for mental health. I don't know why I'm not doing it!

Gracias! Yeh - my memory sucks these days, so using a journal helps me remember where I'm coming from, where I've been. I also depend on my Palm Pilot type device to help me remember when to breathe and stuff! If I lose it, I'll be in BIG trouble.

Writing down what you're thinking is good therapy, whether you share it or not. It helps to clarify your thinking, and sometimes you surprise yourself at what you are saying.

I'm also using it as a behavior modification technique - I get on the computer to update my journal, read and respond to posts here, etc. - during what formerly was my big binge snack time after work every day. It's getting to be a habit, and a much more healthy one at that!

More lengthy thoughts, digressions, revelations are on my blog. MUCH too long to bore you with here.
