Default Stressed over Liver Enzymes...

Okay, here I am thinking everything is running along smoothly. I just got my date for my consultation and it is set for 2/9!! Very happy about that. Then, the surgeons office called this morning and said they had recieved all of the faxed test results and that my labs showed high Liver Enzymes. I already knew about this from my PCP...BUT, now the surgeon wants me to have an Ultrasound. I thought I was getting away with not having to have one because my gallbladder was removed years ago. After all of this time and work put into this surgery...what if my Liver is bad and I can't have the surgery. Has that happened before? Anyone have high Liver Enzymes and can tell me that it just means a fatter liver???

HELP!!!

I have had this issue twice before when I was dieting and exercising very hard. I went to give blood and they kicked it back because of the liver enzymes, and the other time was shortly before they diagnosed me with Diabetes.

Now I do not have a gall bladder either. All I can tell you is that everytime I REALLY push my body those liver enzymes go up, but they had resolved themselves when I gave myself a little break.

Do what your doctor tells you of course, but mine was not the end of the world.

I would not be suprised if mine where up at my 3 month checkup because of all the stress that my body has been through.

Hang in there it will be ok!

PS When my liver gets like that they tell my NO TYLENOL and do not over do the Vitamin C it works your liver very hard.

Hi Cindy,

Before my surgery, my liver enzymes were not normal, either. I had to have an ultrasound before having the surgery but they didn't find anything amiss.

When I had the surgery, the surgeon checked my liver and found nothing wrong (no evidence of fattly liver... nothing).

Recently, I had my liver enzymes rechecked and everything is now normal. I don't know if the weight I've lost has caused things to improve or what the heck happened. All I know is that things are back to normal.

Don't get too worried about this at this point. A lot of people having WLS have fatty liver disease (or the appearance of fatty liver disease) and that doesn't necessarily prevent them from having the surgery.

Your doctors are more than likely just being cautious.

mine weren't normal pre op and they didn't become normal until 9 months post op. I was really starting to worry. Let us know how things go!

I have a fatty liver, hence the Optifast and my long wait, but nothing was mentioned about liver enzymes - what do they do?!
