Smile Phys Eval Questions!!

So I have an appointment for a psyc eval... but I'm not sure if I did it right. I called my insurance company and said I need to see a psychologist for a psyc eval for the gastric bypass surgery and they gave me a bunch on names and numbers to call around me. I have an appointment next week with one but she said she’s never done one before and doesn’t know what to write about. Does anyone know for sure? Like exact questions she can ask me and to write an eval? Or does anyone have a specific person I can go to that knows what they are doing around San Diego area (San Marcos or Escondido)??? That would be so extremely helpful. And does it have to be a psychiatrist or psychologist? Thank u all so much!

i just had mine yesterday. she was recomended by the surgeons office so maybe call them? the surgeons office told her what she needs to include in her report to make sure that it helps with approval, including giving me a diganosis.
we just sat and talked for like 2 and a half hours. it was very nice. she did ask me a few questions about the surgery and if i am prepared to change for it and my eating habits etc.

Kristy you wont want to go to Dr Callery's recommnded therapist. Her name is Dr Bryant and you can do a searh on here here, lots of not so pleasant stories. She used to lead a group in his office and I liked her, but many have had no so pleasanr one on one time with her. I went to PsychCare and met with a gal I never met before. She asked me some silly questions, I answered honestly and we were done. She didint even dictate notes, it was all hand written. A week later I called and obtained copies that I kept for me, as well as my Dr C file.... you should do the same.

Good luck darlin'!

Ack, I would say DON'T go to a psych who has never done an eval before. Call the surgeon's office and see if there is someone that they recommend, or at the very least, go see a therapist that specializes in treating eating disorders or bariatric patients.

Also, if you are not on any kind of medication for mental illness (like me! ), usually it's best to see a psychologist, not a psychiatrist. A psychologist will be able to speak more intelligently about your state of mind, which is what the insurance/docs care about, rather than your mental physiology (a psychiatrist's area of expertise).

I got lucky: I had a psych consult with a social worker that is a bariatric surgery advocate and specifically works with my surgeon's office, a private therapist that specializes in eating disorders, AND a psychiatrist who handles my meds (and all three wrote glowing recommendations for me to get surgery).

Sorry to ramble, I'm big on the psych part of this journey! teehee

Thumbs up

I have my psych eval on friday, all I did was call my insurance company and they gave me the closest location to call with a referral# of course, and the receptionist was very knowledgable and knew just who I should see. wish me luck.
