I would think twice because if they want you to try that first it's because they want to see if you can actually lose the weight on your own. These are the things the insurance companies look at. And if you are successful, then they might say you just have to try, and you don't need the surgery.

Now although you can lose weight from these diets but regaining back twice the weight or all of it after a while, is very depressing. This is what you have to highlight... that you try but regaining it back or more is the bummer. Just a suggestion, if I sound suspicious of them, I'm in the law field, it makes you that way.

Default My union is self-insured

so I don't expect any problems with approval. There are no exclusions and no pre-requisites other than being at BMI over 40 for this surgery. I don't think very many people have gotten it within our group, so it hasn't been a big cost issue for them. When I called to ask, she was confused as to what information I wanted, because she hadn't heard of needing to do anything special. I hope I'm not being too trusting. I'm sure I'll see when the day comes.

Default Nutri-system update

With the Nutri-system and working out every day, I am actually losing a little weight, thank goodness. I must say, this food is not very good. I mean it doesn't taste bad, but my husband is a chef and it is a little depressing to sit and watch him and the kids eat these delicious meals, while I eat the microwaved junk. It is all totally processed - doesn't need to be refrigerated - not what I plan to eat after the next 28 days are over.

I'm trying to learn not to weigh myself all the time (my trainer at the gym insists on this) so a few days ago, I'd already lost 4 pounds after about 4 days. I'll check again after a week has gone by. We'll see!

Some surgeons will have you do it depending on your weight at your consult. By losing 10% of your body weight prior to surgery you "de-fat" your organs making it safer during surgery, thats why they want you to do it. Also, some do have the fram of mind to have you do it to measure how determined you are at following a "healthier" diet to see how committed you are to WLS. But if she or anyone successfully loses the weight the surgeon requires preoperativley its not a trick to trick you out of WLS by the insurance carrier... once you have been approved they dont look back...... I just dont want anyone freaked out is all
