Question Suppose to have liquid before surgery date....HELP

Ok guys...I know this is probably a really silly question and I feel kind of lame asking this but I must...Oh yeah thanks for all the people who helped me get rid of that sore throat..It all worked..I did everything everyone suggest and poof got a little sniffle but otherwise I am great..Ok now here goes the question...

My surgeon has requested that I be on a liquid diet for 10 days prior to surgery..*CHOKE* I manipulated that and got the nurse to say 5 days on a liquid diet..*COUGH* I called her during that time because I ate a piece of toast because I about fainted from starvation and she said no problem. Now I am days way -November 14th at 11:30am and I was feeding the kids some lunch and I took 2 bites out of a piece of pizza and I feel horrible.

Anyone else struggle before surgery with this problem? Or anyone got some advice so I can make it through the weekend?

I have tried the protein drinks and just have not found one I like yet and I am about burnt on Apple juice and Jello and BROTH!

Some help would greatly be appreciated!

Hey! I am doing ok besides being hungry and scared and all the other emotions that are going on. I wish you a lot of luck. Is your doctor putting you on a diet prior to surgery? This has been so hard for me and I feel like a cheater for not following it exactly. Good Luck and keep me posted on how you do!

Default That's rediculous!

I could eat up until 6PM the night before I checked in to the hospital which was at midnight. I was the first case of the day. Give me a break! I wouldn't sweat it! Suzy

Default I sweated it, too

Every surgeon's different... mine wanted me on a low-fat, high-protein, low-carb diet for a week prior, then liquids for 48 hours prior to surgery. Let's just say I almost made it, and came through the surgery with flying colors. You'll be fine...

We were on liquids only one day before. I wouldn't sweat it.

Thanks everyone for your input, I have been feeling pretty down that I blew it. I was feeling like I failed as I just couldn't do the liquid diet for all these days. I am so concerned about messing up and not being able to have the surgery this Monday but in the other hand I am starving and feel horrible from not eating anything. Thanks for all the support!

My Dr requires 14 days on liquids any yogurt prior to surgery. It is supposed to shrink your liver enough so he can do the surgery LAP instead of open.

I am not looking forward to protein shakes, chicken broth, juice and yogurt for 14 days.

SF icepops are good....they come in tropical flavor. I LOVE Nectar protein drink in peach. It keeps me full all day! Also a good tip is go to a place that ususally has really good soup and ask for the broth only! It has so much more flavor. That helped me get through my liquid days. Vons has the soup station now and they always have lots of soups and stuff!
