Default Do You Totally Lose Appetite After Surgery?

Two days before my surgery, I am obsessing over the week of fluids. I cannot imagine not eating something solid for that long! I've never even fasted for half a day. How bad is it? Does it mess with you mind? Or maybe, hopefully, you completely lose your appetite so you don't care? Let me know what it's really like and how you coped with it.

thanks
Katia

Default 1 Month Out yet to be hungy

I am one month out and have yet to be hungry. That week after surgery you just have to remember that you have that new little pouch and that you need to take care of it! I really didn't have much of an issue with it. What got me through were the sugarfree popsicles.

You will not be hungry....you simply will not!

Preop, I worried about that also. In fact, when Dr. Callery said to eat light the day before surgery, I didn't know if I could do it. I felt so out of control with food. But the fear of possible surgery complications from overeating the day before helped me to do it. The first week postop I had no appetite. I just plain felt lousy and struggled to get in enough fluids to stay hydrated. I had a rough time compared to a lot of people I've talked to. We're all different.
You'll see....you're going to be just fine! For me, the anxiety of "anticipation", of "not knowing" was much more stressful than just dealing with "the actual event". I've always been that way. Hang in there..... you're on your way...Yippee!

Thumbs up You will do great!

Katia,

I am 12 days out from surgery and the first week...I was NOT hungry!! The thing that was hard was my head hunger!! Food still smelled good to me and it didn't make me sick like I heard some other people talking about. I felt sad and depressed for a few days as I watched my family eat my fav foods and I sipped on broth! BUT, I knew I could not have those things YET!! I did not want to put my life at risk for one bite of a hamburger!!!

Like Suzanne says...everyone is different! But, I will tell you...when you hit cream soups day...it is like heaven! <LOL>

Good luck and you will do great!

Default Hunger

Hi everyone. I am almost 10 weeks out and still almost have to make myself eat. I get more like quezy than hungry, feel kind of weak and lightheaded...oh, that must mean it is time to eat!!! I looooooooove the sf/ff popsicles. I eat 2/3 a day and I drink a literal metric ton of water!! Sometimes I think I put off eating almost on pupose because I know we are supposed to wait at least 1 hour after eating to have a drink. I always wait at least 11/2 hours, but I do hate it. I have not broken that rule at all, besides once you eat you sure don't have much room left for liquids. Anyway, that is my take on being hungry. Once I start to eat I almost always enjoy it. Sometimes it is rough going down and I can't eat very much at all, but other times I am sure I am eating too much!! I don't wonder sometimes if doc C DID operate on my head!!! It will get easier...it is easy for me now actually. Chin up people =) We are incredibly lucky.

Default

Well I am about 20 months out and I was not hungry at all for the first 3 days then BOOM! I was starving I know it wasnt head hunger cuz my stomach was growling at the smell off foods around me... and my hunger has been there ever since. Its not so bad its like before surgery but i fill up so much faster now that it dont really matter. I am not controlled by my hunger I choose what will fill me up and am ok with it.
