Default I have questions....

Hello! 1st of all I had lap band done Oct. 2004. I have had a few problems. Mainly with my port, and the fact that my surgeon left state after getting a few surgeries under her belt, it has been rough.BUT....I have found a surgeon at Vanderbilt who will do my revision to the by-pass. I have already done the psych. eval./nutrition/blood test/documented history/and promised my body to science! ( just kidding ) My appt. is Nov. 16, 2005 @ 10 am!! I know everything I went through with my lap band but I am sure there are some differences. The only thing I am waiting for is my out of network referral, but the tncare actually told me to call this Dr. because there were no other Dr.'s within about 6 hours that could take care of my problems with the band. The ins. co. said I should have it in about another week. Okay now that I have said all the basics... Who can tell me what is next??? The Dr.'s assistant said they are scheduling for mid- December! yyiiipppiiiii! What is the hosp. stay? how bad is the pain? I need details for the Hubby and Parental units. They are showing signs of worry and I want to reassure that this is okay. Ya'll are great and this is the most awesome place in the world. There is no support meeting that can compare to ya'll!!!xxxooo

well your situation is different but I had WLS done 10 days ago, and I can tell you what I experenced. I was in the hospital for 3 days. Had a liquid diet for 8 days. Then went back to the Dr on the 8th day (25 lbs lighter) and I am now on soft foods. As far as the pain...well really it hurts some, but it is not to bad. I was up taking a walk 3 hours after I got out of the OR. I still have pain on my left side but I am getting better. I am just really tired a lot. I have to rest for 30 min or so in between doing laundry, dishes, cleaning stuff like that. I hope it all goes well for you. Good luck!

Well, I had the open so I was hurting pretty bad. I needed my hubby the first couple days home. You should be able to get around the house okay and probably do some light housework by week two.

If you had the lap band, then they will more than likely do the RNY bypass laproscopiclly. It should be similar hospital stay wise and painwise. The diet is the same too for the first few weeks. The differences you will experience will come in what you can tolerate to eat initally. Anything with too much fat, sugar, or just too much volume can make you sick. You won't know until you try to eat. You'll have to re-learn what to eat that works for you, not just cut back on portion sizes. You'll have some supplements for awhile. It depends on what the surgeon says. Bug the office for more post-op details. My surgeon has a whole binder about what to expect specially based on his practice's experiences. It appears that not every surgeon pays as much attention to details.
