Hi Hope
If it makes you feel any better, My doctor made me do 2 weeks of fasting, Liquids only, high protein, lo-carb. It was the worst 2 weeks of my life but I got through it! You only have 1 more day to go, keep yourself busy!!!
My Doctor did the two weeks liquid protein to ensure that my liver shrunk and was out of the way for laproscopic surgery.
Hang in there!!!

Wow, I'm almost surprised at all the different pre-op diets. Here at the particular hospital I plan on going through, they require a 10 day liquid only pre-op. They also said it was to shrink the liver in prep for the surgery.
I'm not really looking forward to it, but it will be worth it a million times over!

There is a website, try googling it for liquid dieters.. the cool thing about it is, you can chat with people there and get some really great advice from folks who are on liquid diets FULL TIME. Good luck!

I am starting the 10 day pre-op liquid diet today to shrink my liver (and my belly) . Can you have soup on this or are you supposed to only have shakes....My nutritionist didn't mention this and I forgot to ask. Thanks, let me know.

I am also 13 days pre-op here and although I am only required to fast for the last 24hrs I chose to go on a liquid diet. It sucked the first day, I was completely ravenous!
Now that I have adjusted to it though its really good. I guess I do cheat a lil, I throw a tablespoon of peanut butter in every 25 oz to get rid of the bitter taste. (even though its banana shake) The protein powder I bought is called "amplify" and out of all the ones I tried I liked it best. So I get like 4 meals out of a 25 oz shake. I am doing well methinks.
No one said to do this, just read and chatted with the doctor and I too want to shrink my liver a bit to hopefully go lap pre-op. Dr. Mueller has only ever done 7 opens, and over 600 laps so I dont wanna be "that one chickie that threw his stats"
I am however a ball of nerves. Elated one minute, terrified the next. Tell me this passes please!

I does pass, Tammy.
Also, today is my last day on clear liquids -- tomorrow I get to start my protein and vitamins as well as pudding, yogurt, milk, and soups. I thought that day would never get here!

Wow!
I don't know how to respond. I was told to lose weight before the surgery (they want our livers small to make lap surgery easier) but was only told not to eat after midnight the day before my surgery. In fact, I had a small Thai dinner the night before. I don't see why you have to do that unless it's a drastic attempt to reduce your liver size.
