Default Sudden Issues with my PCP

Okay...So I am doing everything that my PCP has asked re: pre-op nutrition classes and such and out of the blue he tells me that if I am to follow through with GBS I will need to choose an another PCP for my care after the surgery is done. WTF!!!!!! What!!!??? I was told that with all the problem I WILL have after GPS he did not want to be responsible for my care. HUH??? EXCUSE ME???!!! Did I miss something? He was the one who gave me the referral in the first place!

He then when on to tell me that "if the sugeon actually did enough follow up after the sugery the situation might be different". Huh? I have meet my surgeon Dr. Suh several times now and I have not had the consultation yet! Everyone who I have spoken to that is post-op has done nothing but raved about him. He has even stopped what he was doing at one meeting to take a call from a patient!

I think I should change my PCP now because once I am finished with all my pre-op requirements, what is the likelyhood that he will not give the referral to see my surgeon? What do ya'll think? Am I over reacting?

AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

If he hasn't given you the refferal, don't change till he does that. Plus check with your insurance just to verify it won't harm your authorization. And from what you're saying, he sounds like a schmuck! That's one of the reasons I went south for my PCP. My Dr. here in town was a schmuck too! He was very "old school". My friend Melody had her surgery with Dr. Suh six weeks ago and has been very happy with him. Good luck sweetheart!

WTF!! Terrah you should have called me! I am here for ya any time you need to vent...you have my cell number.

What an a hole. Even if you did have problems (which I don't think you will) why wouldn't he want to treat you. Isn't that what Dr.'s are for...to treat you when you are ill? @#$^#%^%^#@^@%$!@ I am so sick of flippin PCP's. Our surgeon does do follow up after the surgery...there are also the Support Groups which he attends. Where is your PCP getting his info?

Cool Omg

He is exactly what is wrong with the medical profession today!!! I am an MD
and am embarrassed by his behavior. It is part of the discrimination by society carried over into medicine regarding obesity. You are going to be a complicated patient by having the surgery and losing weight, but you won't be a complicated patient if plagued with medical problems by staying at the current weight or higher???
I apologize to you on behalf of doctors and have one bit of advice. If this is his true colors, he is not a dedicated physician (nor a good one) obviously more worried about having an easy practice than practicing medicine. You would not want to be under his care anyway.
Good Luck with finding a new and caring MD. Maybe ask your surgeon for a recommendation of an PCP he has worked well with.

Thanks guys for all the help.

Cindy, sorry I didn't call I was really out of it on Friday. I'll see you tonight, though.

Dyann, thanks for support! Too bad you don't live in California. I'm in the market for a new doctor!

I'm still not sure what I am going to do.

Thanks for listening!
