Birth control?
My surgeon told me yesterday that with this surgery there is a very likely chance that I could get pregnant after all is done. My husband has had the big V, and we've not worried about using anything for the 6 years since. He (the surgeon) told me that oral contraceptives will not work and recommends other methods. Anyone have any recommendations?

If your husband has had a vasectomy, you will not get pregnant unless the baby is fathered by someone else. If he has been tested for sterilit after the V, you dont have to worry about becomming pregnant

The Patch
I use the patch. It has to be changed weekly. No big deal. I have no side effects.
Good Luck!

Luckily, I have my tubes tied...otherwise fertile mertle...that is me, would already be pregnant. I know if your husband had the big "V". you should be ok...just check with your doctor.

Not necessarily. They made sure we were well aware that spontanious pregnancy could occur after a v. I personally know someone that had 2 pregnancies after her husband having one, and both babies were his. On a side note, he never went back to get checked.
I'll look into the patch, thanks.

I am going in next week on Thursday to get an IUD inserted. I don't want to have to worry about taking pills (my surgeon said they should be OK, SHOULD is not good enough!) Or changing a patch. And I weigh too much for the patch, my gynocologist said that the patch is only affective on women who weigh 190 or less.
Plus I was on the pill when I got pregnant with my son, and when I got the DepoProvera shot after he was born I gained 30lbs and it messed me up for a few years hormonally.
Anyhow, I think that the IUD is good because they put it in, you forget about it and its supposed to last for 5 years. If you want to get pregnant, you just make an appt. to have it removed.

In maintenance... now I'm yo-yoing up and down 10 lbs or so. I'm trying to find out how to stay at a set weight, it's rough.

I dont want to take a poll here on anyones moral beleifs. however, I just want to put out there that the IUD works by creating a hostile environment for the sperm, but also by not allowing a Fertilized egg from implanting should a little wiggler make it to the egg.
Many people don't know that so I thought I'd throw it out there.

I had to laugh when I read this one because my husband and I have had a pregnancy after vasectomy and my husband never went back to get checked after the first one. Since he has had the second vasectomy (had 15 million little swimmers when he did get checked after the new baby was born) he's gone back a couple of times just to be sure.
