Default Initial consult date?

I just recently took the first step in my journey by calling to schedule the initial consult with my surgeon.

I didn't expect to be able to get in any time soon but I figured it would be 3 or 4 months. Imagine my surprise when I learned it is actually EIGHT! With the first available being the beginning of July!

I will be going to the required one time info session in a couple of weeks. I also will have the chance to call one time per week to perhaps get an appointment that someone else canceled but she explained that is rare and that they go extremely fast.

I will (maybe not so patiently ) wait but I was wondering how typical this is. I'm sure it varies greatly but I'm just curious what others experience has been.

Thanks so much in advance!

Eight months just to get in for the initial consulation? I don't think that's typical. I would call another surgeon, personally. I think I had to wait a couple weeks for my first appointment.

I agree with Kelly. That's kind of ridiculous.
Usually doctors will get you in asap because they want you before you have a chance to change your mind. HA.

Are you in a smaller area where he's the only surgeon around. Perhaps going to another area will help you find a surgeon just as good and better prepared to handle a heavy load. (no pun intended LOL)

I appreciate your input! Thanks...both of you confirmed what I was thinking: that it is a bit ridiculous!

No, I am actually in Massachusetts....south of Boston so quite the opposite of a smaller/rural region!

Too funny you should mention Tufts and Dr. Shikora! I have been checking him and the program out since I posted last and am really feeling good about it. Do you mind sharing what your timeline/timefram with them was like??

I would love to pick your brain but I'm sure you are super busy with your surgery coming up...how exciting for you! I can't wait to hear how it goes!

ETA: I'm in Mansfield btw...so hello neighbor!

Howdy Neighbor
He is amazing and his team, i prob started the program in March but i kinda slacked and took my time with making appts but they say the estimated time of getting through is about 3months. the program is very extensive with appts but only for your benefit, Dr. Shikora will give you his cell number if you need him!! i would def look into Tufts
