Default Frustrated

I finally finished my 6 diet with a nutritionist, met with the physcologist. The paperwork was to be sent to the insurance company this afternoon, but the nurse says we need a letter from your PCP stating that he recommends the surgery. Why didn't they tell me earlier?! So now I get to wait a few more days until my PCP gets the letter done.
So close!

Just another hoop to jump through...and it's a pretty small hoop too, right?!

Before you know it you will have your definite surgery date!

I'm curious... has a pcp ever not recommended WLS when asked to do so? I have a pcp that isn't really on board with this, but he's going through the process (6 months worth of visits) because he knows that's what I'm going for. Just wondering.

Default Frustrated Too

I started the process in late Aug and have been flying along. I finished my last test on Oct 27th and have been anxiously waiting for insurance approval (Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield).

Now, my gastro guy said that I need to do another endoscopy to make sure that the infection that I had in my esophagus from my asthma medicine(steriods in the inhalers) cleared up.

I'm in a catch-22....I need the asthma medicine but cannot get operated on if my esophagus is not cleared up. Everytime I feel a tickle in my throat I get upset....

Hi NYLady,

I just recently started using a steroid inhaler (azmacort) about 1 1/2 months ago. Dr. diagnosed me with overreactive airways. As of right now my asthmas is not extremely well controlled. I didn't know that this could be a problem with having this surgery. I didn't know that the inhaler could cause an infection, either. Do you have to be off of all inhalers in order to have surgery?

I don;t have to be off the inhaler. I just cannot have an infection in my esophagus. My doctor told me to rinse my mouth and gargle after using an inhaler. I hope it works. My next endoscopy is scheduled for Dec 8th. I had the last infection around 9/28.
