Default Clothes

I am 1 week preop and I have some clothes questions. I am short 5ft and weighed 206 and now 189 or so on preop diet. My issue is clothing. I always wear large 3x tops with a silly vision that they look "flowing" My plan is that they will work until I lose quite a bit of weight. Is that the case? If not does anyone have ideas? I have a hard time in resale because of being so short. I work at a place that is business casual (what ever that means) I usually wear mom pants (elastic tops curdoroy) and a sweater or shirt. How did you cope on the slim down side. I do not want to spend a lot as I have a closet full now Many thanks for suggestions. ALso if any other short folks want to trade or swap I would be happy to for preops. I wear Eileen Fisher alot Diann

I started out in a size 26 pants and 3X tops. And I wore those until they practically fell off, which was a long time. My pants were all elastic waist, which I think allowed me to wear them a long time even though they got a little baggy in the butt. And I was able to wear the tops for a long time. I finally got a coupe 2X tops, but mostly waited to buy new tops until I could fit in an XL. I also didn't buy new jeans until I was in a size 20. I got new ones with elastic waists and wore them until I could fit in a 16. At that point I bought ones that button, not elastic. I'm now wearing a size 14 and size Lg tops.

Anyway, I guess what I'm getting at is that you will probably be able to wear your tops for a while. And if your pants have elastic waists, you can probably wear them for a while, too.

I've been putting new seams down the legs of my slacks to help them fit a little better and have a few nice shirt style faux suede tops that I plan to resize for now. Funny thing is, just a few weeks before I was okayed for the surgery my hubby took bags of smaller sized clothes to the Salvation Army. I could have had dozens of pieces to choose from. Anyways, if you can sew a straight line you could probably do a bit of reworking with your tops and pants.

Let's see, I started in a 26/28 and only some 3x tops worked for me after my pre-op diet I bought myself some 24 jeans because my office has no dress code since we don't have clients come in very often and my plan was just to stick to jeans and knit tops while losing weight. I wore those until I had lost maybe 70lbs but they looked awful. It wasn't until I bought some clothes that fit me that people even noticed I had lost a lot of weight. And those clothes were cheap from Old Navy, like $10 shirts and $20 jeans and in solid colors and able to be layered and I just do a mid week load of laundry and just mix and match so it doesn't look like I am wearing the same thing.

honestly ..buy a couple pairs of back/ dark pants and 5 or so shirts and rotate them..thats what I have done until recently...clothes will look frumpy fast as your weight goes down...and a shirt that fits better will keep you motivated cause you will feel better

Cool Thanks

I really appreciate hearing from everyone on this. I used to have every size in the store in my closet but several years ago when I had "given up" with my weight struggle I got rid of them all. hummm. seemed like a good idea at the time. I am going to go thru all my stuff and see what is high medium and low in terms of clothing per hoof pound ! Not a bad problem at all ! I do not sew but my dry clean store does it pretty cheap. I now realize that I always wore black and loose clothing no matter what size I ever was. I think I was hiding out in my body and clothing. I am hoping to be ready to step it up a bit when the weight loss happens.

I started off at a 5x, im a 1x at the moment. I find trousers get too big really quickly especially round the butt. A lot of my tops I can still wear with a high waist belt, I have a few in different styles and colours like this one:

I buy clothes from the thrift store and
now Old Navy's clearence women's clothes
is another 50% off that price ! So I got like
7 tops for $22.00 !!! Also we have a once
a month clothing swap at my support group
and each table is a different size, and it's alot
of fun and sharing.

Another option is to go to a Salvation Army or Goodwill in a fancy schmancy neighborhood. You can find really, really nice clothing that has only been worn a few times, but whose owner was ready to buy the next season's wardrobe. Very cheap option!

I am having the same issues. I worked for a large retail department store at the corporate headquarters, and every now and then they would have trunk shows. So, I would just go down there and grab, not caring what size it was. (I was a little ambitious at the time), and I do have a few shirts that should suffice for business wear. I am also going to take my suits to get altered as I lose.
I have also found that Good Will has A LOT of great stuff if you go first thing on a Sunday AM. They are putting out the stuff that came in from the garage sales the day before, and you can usually find some great, brand new stuff there.
My problem is, I have a REALLY long torso, and short short legs! So it's hard to resale the jeans/pants that I have currently due to the fact that my legs are so short and my waist is so big. :-)
I am preparing to be frumpy for a while.
