My Mom Has a Date!!
Hey everyone! I just wanted yall to know, my mom has a date for surgery on Aug 30th! Im so excited for her! She has fibromyalgia, lupus, degenerative disk disease, carple tunnel, some kind of neuroma on her foot, she needs knee replacement surgery, a pinched nerve that makes her leg go numb if she stands for longer than 10 min... and the list goes on! I cant even remember all the things she has wrong with her! Im so happy for her because I heard that a lot of these things she has will go away. Her doc said that if she didnt lose weight somehow, she would be in a wheelchair in 5 years. No insurance companies will insure her, except Medicare or whatever, and theyre paying for the hospital portions of surgery. The rest is out of pocket. Anyways, Im so excited for her, I cant wait to see her happier and healthier!

Oh yeah, she also has severe arthritis and she was wondering today if she can take her arthritis meds... my doc said we cant take any anti-inflamatory medications like ibuprofen or asprin or any of that because it would cause ulcers in the pouch. Anyone know anything about this? Anyone else have arthritis and what happend with yours? Thanks much!

I have osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, herniated disc, lupus, and COPD. Surgery will not cure those but will ease the symptoms, and exacerbations are minimal now. I lived on ibuprofen, and no we cannot take them after surgery, only a few days in a row, spaced out. I have been on it for 3 days because of my pain being bad this week, but usually It is manageable with tylenol. There are a few allowed after surgery.
The rest of my health issues were gone shortly after surgery.
What meds she is on needs to be discussed with the surgeon. Aspirin and steroids and such. MAOI inhibitors might be included, I don't remember. Certain meds contain blood thinning products, and would not be conducive for blood clotting factors during surgery. Need to be able to clot off and stop bleeding. Make sure they are discussed.

Holly!
That is awesome news about your Mom. I'm sure you're so happy for her too, knowing that this surgery should relieve her of most of her current pain. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
