Insurance Question
Quick question, I want to call my insurance to see what my portion of the hospital cost is going to be. What do I say? Is it ok to do this even though I haven't been approved yet?
Thanks,
Melody

Melody,
I don't see what it would hurt to ask the question.

Sure Melody, you can call them, in fact, Leslie advises you to do that when you have your consult with Kelly, then see her... It wouldn't hurt a thing for you to call, and if it will ease your mind, go for it girlfriend!!
Just tell them you're preparing for WLS and would like to know, once you're approved, what your portion, if any, the hospital cost will be... simple as that...
Good Luck!!!

Calling your insurance co
Do you know what specific questions to ask? If not I may be able to help.
When you call tell them you are checking your benefit information.
1. What is your deductible?
2. What is your out of pocket?
3. What is your in-hospital procedure co pay?
These are questions to answer, some may apply and some may not, but this will get you on the right track. When you get these answers and you still have questions understanding those responses, I can help.

Melody,
My HR department gave me the information of my deuctible for the hospital which was $1500.00 for 3 days. Leslie told me the amount I needed for the actual surgery which was nothing. I was overjoyed. If you don't want to ask your HR dept., I would call your insurance company so there are no surprises.
Good luck

Re: Insurance
On the front of my insurance card is specific information re: copay; hospital admin, etc. By each of those entries is a $ amount. At Hospital Admin-$100, it turned out to be $100 per day. When Leslie called me re my surgery date, soon thereafter the Insurance company called to tell me my copay would be $100 per day. Also there should be a number on your card, mine in on the back, that provides numbers to call anytime re questions.
I had my surgery on 7/14/04; and like so many of you, I am doing well and feel pretty darned good. Would I do this again if I knew what the experience is like? Yes, in a minute. Thanks to all of you for asking the questions and answering in this forum...some of us do well by reading and learning from your experiences.

Cost to you
You will be contacted by Pomerado the week before your surgery by the admissions dept. They will want you to come into the hosp to sign some papers. They might have the info for you also.
The lady who helped me was Anita in admissions.
