Question How Long does the surgery take

My Huband will be in the waiting room so he wants to know how long the surgery will take, I wouldn't think it would take too long.

My doctor said he can do it in 1.5 hours, but probably closer to 2 hours. But then you are in recovery. Tell your hubby to chill out...he's going to be sitting for a while.

The surgery takes about an hour and a half, usually. But then you will be in recovery for an hour or two after that.

I had Lap Gastric Bypass on Monday October 12, went in the operating room at 11am and was moved into my room at 4:30. I would say expect anywhere from 3 to 5 hours, just in case.

Total time for me was about 4 - 4 1/2 hours due to a tool "malfunction" and all the abdominal adhesions they had to "get through" to perform the surgery itself.

Ask you doctor how long they THINK it will be, but just know that they never truly know until the perform the surgery.

I went in at 11am and don't remember anything til around 6pm, but from what I heard it was about 5 hours before I was taken to the medium care unit. It was 25 hrs from the time I left my room til I got back there tho.

That's about what my doc's said for them to expect -- including potential delays, prep and recovery.

For me, due to complications, my surgery- just OR time was just over 6 hours.. then I had approx 8 hours in the recovery room.
