Hi all!
I know there are some older posts on this topic but thought I would start a new one for the people who are currently dealing with the issue.
I have been taking bc pills for 20 years except for 1 year where I tried the depo shot (stopped because of weight gain). Due to upcoming surgery, I went to my gyno to talk to her about changing bc methods and don't have many options. Can't do shot because of weight gain, too heavy for patch, haven't had babies so iud is out. The only recommendation she had, besides sterilization, was the nuva ring. Anybody tried this? What have you tried and liked? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I am delighted to say that my partner had a vasectomy a few years ago so I do not have to worry about this. Obviously that doesn't work if you hope to have children in the future. I did not know you could not use the IUD if you hadn't had children. It sounds like the Nuva Ring might be your only option. Although it is possible that after surgery the shot would not cause weight gain. I say that because I am on an antidepressant that causes weight gain and it was a problem for me before surgery, but since surgery I have been losing even though I am on this medication. Although, if I didn't reallly need the medication, I wouldn't take the risk. So I could certainly understand that you wouldn't want to try the shot again. I hope you find something that works for you.

Birth control works differently for everyone, but I can tell you about my experience with NuvaRing. That was the first BC I went on after surgery. The first month was fine. After that...to be honest, my sex drive died. When I did have sex, I felt numb. I don't recommend it. Also, my friend got pregnant on it, so I wouldn't recommend it.

i had the nuva ring several years ago, and didn't have any problems with it. my husband said he didn't care for it, but if there is a comfort issue when you are intimate, you can take the ring out for up to three hours.

I tried all sorts of pills, patch, nuva ring, and non of them worked well with my emotions. I gained weight, and cried at the drop of a hat with all of them. I discussed the IUD with my doctor, and even though I have never had a child, my doctor was 100% on board with it. I have had NO side effects with it, and I've had it for 2 years now. I have Mirena and LOVE IT!! I'm not emotional, I have not had a period, there is no depletion of my sex drive, and the best thing... the day that I have it removed, I could become pregnant the same cycle. It's an immediate return of your fertility. I have not had the weight gain with it, nor do I have to remember to take a pill, remove the ring, change a patch, etc.

Each person is very different though and each body responds differently to things. I hope that you find something that works best for you! I know it's frustrating!!

there is always the old diaphram plus some spermacide. I've never been able to be on the pill so this worked for me for years!
