I ordered 30 samples from vitalady.com and didn't like any of them. These are practically like milk shakes! Hope this helps someone who is struggling to find a good protein supplement. It has 118 cal, 1 g sugar, 3 carbs, and 22 g of protein! Woooohooooo!
Also, if you have to do a liquid diet like me the day before surgery, cream of potato soup is really good. I had never even tried it, but I really like it. I have subsisted on that, protein shakes, and water today and feel fine.
I am going to pack my hospital bag now. Am I dreaming?
Oh, and speaking of dreaming, is anyone else having weird dreams about surgery? Over the last week, I have had dreams that I got sick and they cancelled surgery, that I ate something wrong and they cancelled the surgery, that my mom never picked me up to take me, so they cancelled my surgery. You get the idea!!! Do you think I am scared I might not really get my surgery?! I also dreamed about massive skin swinging from arms! OY!!!
Good luck Digitrix and Terri! Will be thinking of you!

Kim, you sound as excited as I am. I have just one problem, and it delves into the land of too much information, so bear with me:
I was told to do the magnesium citrate "colon cleanse" today at noon. Drank the full bottle (bleh!) and six hours later -- still nothing! Now I have been on a liquid diet except the one tuna fish sandwich I allowed myself at 4 p.m. Saturday -- so something HAS to be in there.
I keep worrying I screwed that up and ... they'll cancel my surgery. But I'm not dreaming of any of it. Isn't that strange?

Terri,
Ha! There you are! I posted to the other thread first! The mag citrate hit me in a matter of 30 minutes (the first time I took it). And then every 15 min or so until there wasn't anything left. The second time it took longer, I think because there wasn't much in me. Either way, I guess it doesn't matter now since you are POSTOP! Wooohoooo! How are you feeling?
Anyone heard from Digitrix? She had surgery Monday too. It is about 4 am here and I am anxiously awaiting my turn to go in at 11:30 today (postponed from Monday).
Lynda, thanks for adding me

I will be going home this evening, I am sure. I tolerated liquids yesterday, and my eggs and creamof wheat went down pretty good this am. (had to dip it in the applesause to disguise the egg flavor. Ate 2 teaspoons worth, and that was 2 hours ago, now I am sipping and walking.

I joined this forum after I had my surgery.
1st post!
I had a LAP RNY on 10/09/2009. I have a few questions for everyone or anyone.
 1. What kind of post-op diet are you girls on? me liquids for 2 weeks, then liquids, egg beaters, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese for 2 weeks, then at 4 weeks I get to add meats, and at 8 weeks I get to slowly introdude vegs and fruit. I am at eggs now and can't stand eggs. I was fine for 3 days on them, now I want to vomit when I put egg in my mouth. Yuck!
2. My husband said to add some fish and chicken. Do you girls think it's too soon post-op to do that? Have the intestines healed enough to handle that. I know I cannot eat more eggs!
3. Do ya'll feel completely void of energy? I am sooooo tired all the time. I asked my doc if 470-540 calories are enough, and she said if I could get all of my protein in and consume absolutely no calories that this would be ideal.
4. When do you girls start taking your vitamins? She has not started me on any of my vitamins yet. The only pills I take are pepsid, thyroid pill, and my estrogen.
5. Are any of you girls a little depressed? Not sure if it will pass or if I should mention it to my doctor. I just started my estrogen again last night. Could the total lack of estrogen when I have had a total hysterectomy years ago have caused me to be a little moody? Do you think the estrogen will make me feel better now that I am starting to take it again?
I guess that's it. I am feeling pretty good healthwise, just tired and a little down. I seem to be stuck at this 182. I have been here for 4 days. I don't know how to make it move. I certainly can't reduce my calories or Protein intake. The doc says its physics...you lose when you reduce calories, fate, and carbohydrates. Well, why am I stuck at 182 for 4 days? This is just like before I had surgery. Maybe my body is storing liquids. I don't know. It's just frustrating.
I do miss my favorite foods. I guess I used that time to get that "one on one" devoted time from my husband. I had him trapped at the dinner table. He loves how I cook, and if he wants to eat... Ha Ha!
I agree with someone else who said getting all of your proteins in seems a little like a full-time job especially in the beginning. My husband wants to take me out to eat on the 3rd of November...I guess I can have some chicken. I would give anything for some chicken cooked down in salsa or chicken chili. I know I can't, but the chicken chili is very healthy, with beans and no added fat of any kind. I am ready for stage 4.
I am also a stay at home mom, so I had many of the same issues with my spoiled family. After day 2 at home, I realized no one was going to wash the dishes, or do the laundry, etc... So I had to get up and do them, sore or not. At least, I was recovering pretty good at that point or who knows what my house or family would look like now. Ha Ha!
Sorry for the long email, just wanted to ask my sistas in surgery what they think, or if they have any knowledge to share on my concerns.

On the depression thing, that's very common post-op. Lots of hormones build up in the fat we are losing and are released ... plus, this is such a big life change.
On the meats, particularly chicken, just keep in mind that many people seem to be especially sensitive to chicken. Go figure. Maybe you should try some mild tilapia first?
