Wink Waiting for approval from insurance and surgery date!!!!

Hi Everyone... a newbie here....I am anxiously awaiting to find out if insurance will approve my surgery...I have already gone through all of the tests.

Patience is not a virtue of mine!

Ladyhawk,
I'm right there with you. I just got my approval and surgery date on the 4th and it seemed as tho everything was going sooooo slooooow. I am scheduled to have surgery on the 26th and all my friends are like ...wow, that's fast...and I'm like...not fast enough. If your chart is with the insurance company now, it shouldn't be much longer. My approval was faxed to Dr. Potts the same day the insurance company approved it. The next day I had a surgery date.

Fortunately for me, I'm remodeling my bathroom so now I have to kick everything into high gear so that it will be ready when I get home from the hospital. It is a blessing that I have something else to focus on for the next three weeks!

Good luck to you and I hope you hear something soon!

The best advice I can give you is to expect the first week to be hard and to wonder what the heck you did to yourself. My first week was hard, although I have had much harder surgeries to recover from than this one. I just wasn't expecting how hard it would be to have to sip water and be on broth and stuff for a week.

Veronica,

Hey there.......just curious........do you think the liquid diet and difficulty with drinking is worse than the actual pain from surgery? That is the impression I am getting from people, especially the ones who got lap surgery. Does it actually hurt to drink or is it just hard to get down? Thanks for all your input.

Well, welcome and it is wonderful to have you here! The first week or so really sucks but it is well worth the suffering. Don't stock up on a bunch of jello, broth, protein. I threw tons of it away. Take chapstick with you.

I didn't have much pain from the surgery. But, I took my pain meds faithfully until the drowsy effect they gave me was worse than any discomfort I still had. I then switched to tylenol.
The most discomfort I had was that each time I swallowed water I would have to burp and that did hurt my stomach. I finally read on here that some people take Gas X and I got the ok from my dr to take it and it has been fine ever since then.
I think the adjustment to learning how to eat differently - small sips or bites, eating slowly (by biggest challenge) learning which foods sit ok with me and which ones don't - has been the most difficult thing of this whole surgery.
